I own a VTECH 5.8 ghz model 5831. The off button

I own a VTECH 5.8 ghz model 5831. The off button does not turn the phone off consistently. You really have to work at it to turn the phone off. Is this something that can be repaired and, if so, what is the procedure and cost?

The reply that I got was to either clean the contacts on my keypad on the phone (it is only the one key that is causing me a problem or to replace the keypad. Where would I go to get repair assistance from someone who know what they are doing?

Where do I get a button to replace it with?

How do I check to see if it is connected properly?

  • parkebrown Mar 05, 2009

Not really. The bottom line was that the responders thought that the problem was unfixable due to non availability of parts and to discard the phone and get a new one. Oh well. ?Guess this is life in the 21st century. So much for going green!! Parke Brown

If it doesn't turn off when u hang it up in the charger then the problem is in the logic circuit that shuts the phone off not the actual off switch or button, I have had this phone and found it was cheaper to just replace it than have it repaired, which in my case was about $50.00 US

Re: "off button does not turn the phone off consistently"

A: that means that the on button is defective.

If the unit is less than one year old it can be repaired under factory warranty. In that case ring the number listed on the owner manual to get support.

If the phone is over one year old it can be still replaced at Vtech expenses in case this is a factory problem.

Even if this would be an easy repair, DIY repair is difficult, as parts for vtech phones are not available for distribution.
Taking the phone apart will also invalidate eventual warranty.

The best thing to do is contacting Vtech at link below and checking if they can cover the repair:

did you check your charger if it is working?mostly of the charger are malfunctioning its chord or wires.
