Question about Philips HTS3400/37B System

Remote and player keys are not working/ volume is working

I watched a movie yesterday and today when my wife went to put a DVD in the DVD control keys won't work (play, skip, stop) even on the remote. The volume control works and it begins to play the DVD. Once I get to the main menu, I can't go any further because of the controls no working. Any idea on this...I couldn't seem to find this problem anywhere else.

Well....my wife said she gave the DVD player another try today and she said it was doing the same thing as before. The only thing she did differently, that I didn't do yesterday was that she unplugged the DVD player and then plugged it back in and then she stated she got the buttons to work on the DVD player....CRAZY....I don't know what the deal was but that corrected the problem.

Hello, depending on how new your dvd player is ,and what brand it might be ,their are many variables to this answer , first of all if your volume works and the rest of the buttons do,nt ,I have to wonder if we are talking about a dvd player remote , because to tell you the truth i have never seen a volume control on a dvd remote! Is this a universal remote that controls your dvd and other components? if so you might have lost the code that you first programmed into it , if it,s not that ,Then lets look at the player that did work a day earlier and now it does,nt ,If niether of the two work then i would have to say it woul be a sensor issue in the board and most likely the recieving part of the board that recieves the signals from the remote and that same part of the board also controls you dvd function controls on it,s front.Another question is on electronics ,Do you have a surge protector on the components ? ,and if not Was their a storm recently in your area that could have possibly caused a power failure at your house that you might not have been around to wittness! When power surges happen near a home ( a close lightning strike) you could be out of the house and not realize it and when you return your power is restored but your digital clocks and microwave never lie when it comes to power surges because those are some of the first items you have to reset ,theese are asure sign that their was a power failure , if that was to occur without a surge protector to the dvd player , it,s quite possible it fried the board , Also make shure your remote batterys are fresh ,if it,s still not that you can try one more thing ,if you buy a universal remote for about 10 bucks , the control comes with a code book that can be programmed to your dvd player and see if that will work , if any of theese idea,s don,t seem to work consult your owners warranty manual for a possible replacement ,most home theater systems today are all in one units that have all the electronics in one unit including dvd , if this is what you have then definetly consult your manual and call customer service of your brand ,they will work with you and possibly honor the warranty and send you a new one ! I hope i was able to give you some idea,s and insight into helping you troubleshoot your problem ,! it,s been a pleasure trying to help,Sincerely Glenn mayer

  • Mayer overhead door co.

Hello again, I am so glad you got your player to work,Your wife is one smart cookie , some electronics clear their present jam codes by reseting them ,and if that means taking out the plug to get it to reset then so be it,I know on garage door openers and on computers and stereo systems that overheat or get bogged down with too much info they can freeze and not allow and new information to be processes ,some have too cool off while others just need to be unplugged for a short while, that also goes for satellite and cable recievers ! Well I really did appreciate your question and you know what ? I really learned something also because that was the one thing i did not suggest and was thinking of all the other things it could have been , well i am happy all is well with your dvd player and Thank you for giving me the oppurtunity to try and help you, Sincerely Glenn Mayer

How to adjust the volume without the remote

If there isn't a physical knob or other "manual" adjustment on the unit itself, for adjusting a parameter available on the remote (such as volume), then the remote is the only way, and you'll need it to fully operate your DVD player.

If it's any consolation, there are many other "remote-dependent" devices made today, unlike yesterday, when the opposite was the case, where the remote controlled only a portion of available functions, and all of them were manually available on the unit.

Had my samsung dlp tv repaired today. tvs fine now but the remote does not work(still works on dvd player) direct tv remote does power on tv either or control volume anymore

It sounds that the remote control should be programmed once again with TV with its setup codes. Setup codes for Samsung TV are:

0105 0077 0076 0109 0007 0009 0004 0005 0085 0172 0942 0358 0012 0015 0080 0104 0106
Check these codes, and select one which have maximum functionality with your TV.

Programming dvd player

It sounds like you may not be on the correct input selection on the tv to watch the dvd player. Ther are probably three or four inputs to choose from on your tv. whichever input you hooked the dvd player into on the tv is the same imput you have select using the tv's remote control in order to watch movies on the dvd player.

Dont know what to do

Probably not much help. but the 1st thing I would do is check to see if the disc is even turning...put it in with label straight up, then when it fails, eject...odds are severely against the disc being oriented the same way if it spins, so if it hasn't moved, the main drive motor is bound up or dead. Either way, return it.
