Need solution to start my N640P

I recently upgraded to a dual core 2 duo with intel mother board after my old cpu passed out. my problem is that my new mother board dont have a parallel port for me to insert the scanner parallel connection. recently I bought a USB to Parallel cable but that cable is not recognized by the computer. I have installed all the drivers provided in the cd but still it was not recognized. can some one help me in what to do I hate to throw my old scanner since it is still working very well.Thanks to all who will answer my need.
