Question about Williams 2509612 Ceramic Mid-Size Heater

When the heater is off, the pilot has excessive gas blowing out of it making the flame very loud and noisy.

It sounds like there is a hole in the tube, near the flame. You should have it checked. It shouldn't even be as noisy as a gas stove.

Your pilot flame should be blue with a small yellow tip, and it should cover the thermocouple (a small rod in front of the pilot light). If the flame is too small and doesn't cover the thermocouple, it may be adjusted too low, or you have low gas pressure or you have a leak in your gas line coming in to the heater. If the flame looks like a lazy yellow flame, you are probably not getting enough air to the flame. Check that your air openings around the pilot are not clogged up. If the flame looks like a waving blue flame then you probably have excessive draft at the pilot. If the pilot flame looks good and covers the thermocouple, then the thermocouple might be bad. The most common problem with these types of heaters is dust build up in the pilot. If your pilot light is mostly a yellow flame you need to blow out the pilot of dust.

Turn off the unit. Remove the cover to expose the pilot. You should find two small holes about an inch or two below the tip of the pilot. Those holes are for mixing oxygen into the gas prior to it lighting. Blow those out with a can of compressed air and you may as well blow out the large burner also with the can of air. Wipe down everything with a damp cloth to remove additional dust.

Sometimes the pilot will light and stay lit, but when the burners turn on the flame moves slightly and pulls the flame away from the thermocouple. Either way this is a good idea to do every year or two on your heater.

check to make sure that the poilet lite flame is touching the tip or top of the thermocouple.
the pilot lite needs to heat up the thermocouple so that the thermocouple opens the gas to the main gas log. a cold thermocouple shuts off the gas to the main gas log or gas burner and a hot thermocouple opens the gas to the main burner.
the pilot lite flame must be touching the thermocouple to heat it up.
pilot lite orface needs to be clear to let the pilot flame gas through with enough pressure so that the little flame can reach & touch the thermocouple. Pilot lite gas feed tube must be clear to let gas through. Use compressed air or a fine sewing needle, or even carb cleaner to clear out orface hole and gas feed line to pilot lite.

important!! WARNING:
if you use carb cleaner,make sure all the carb cleaner is dry,soaked up with paper towell or kleanex tissue and blowed out with compressed air , because carb cleaner can burn just like gasoline; so any carb cleaner must be compleatly gone before you attempt to lite the pilot lite.

wind, if there is any wind getting in your flu it will blow out your pilot light
which heats the thermo coupling and keeps your gas valve open its a safety device so if pilot blows out gas valve shuts down so as not to leak gas hopes this helps

Pilot light will not stay on my provence gas heater at any setting


first thing to do is make sure you got gas? figure you know that so here we go.
where the gas comes out for the pilot flame. use a pipe cleaner and run it down in it about 2 or 3" .
sometimes a spider web will block the flow of gas and it's not enough to heat the probe that keeps the pilot flame lit. or the flame sensor is bad. it's rare to have the sensor go bad but it can. a can of air and blow it out good is always a good thing. Good luck. always be careful.......

Simply clean out the jet tube with a fine wire, the sound you hear is the gas blowing by the irregular edges, and swirling and not mixing and producing sound waves, (Bit like a flute) So, you need to clean the tube right out, and smooth off the end again, & sorta "Countersink", Flame the end too, at the end.use a very fine needle file, and make it look like new, that will sort your problem out. Then adjust so you have a good gas flow. Also check out it isn't blocked too.

Pilot light and furnace seems to work fine but during the night the pilot goes out. What can I do to fix this? Is it the thermostat, thermocoupler, gas line? Dave


My experience with this is that first replace the thermocouple. As thermocouples age they sometimes become less efficient and intermitent. If you still have the problem check that the groves cut in the burner tubes are not plugged because sometimes an uneven flame will blow the pilot out upon ignition. Also any drafts around the furnace can blow out the pilot. Make certain that all flame shields are installed correctly. I have even had pilots blow out when a door was opened causing an excessive draft. And make sure your draft is operating properly and not restricted.

Your thermocoupler seems at fault. The thermocoupler is that probe that sits in the pilot flame. It controls the main fuel valve. Make sure that probe is in the pilot flame, better at the tip of the flame and hold the button down for a minute or so after lighting the pilot. If pilot extinguishes, the coupler is faulty. If pilot stays on the heater should fire up when you let up on the pilot button.. Good luck

All it needs is a good blow out with compressed air. They tend to carbon up in the pilot light area. You will probably also find it is very dusty inside. Easiest way to clean the carbon out is to remove the hose at the heater and with compressed air blow through the fitting where you have removed the hose. Make sure you hold down the start button so the air can get through to the pilot light and jets. Don't connect the electricity for the fan when you do this. If you can get to the top of the pilot light it may help to give that a blow out too.
To clean it out internally you only need to remove the front panelling. Just follow the screw configurations *** you go. I asm not familiar with that type of heater so thats about the best I can do. Regards Bryan
