What operating system are you using?

Posted by ubelong2matt on Mar 04, 2009

When you say "icon", are you referring to a shortcut located on the desktop, under the Quick Launch (area next to the Start menu), or under Start -> All Programs -> <Game Folder>? If you're clicking on a shortcut, the first thing you must do is make sure its pointing to a correct executable for the game. To do this:

  1. Right click on the shortcut and choose Properties.
  2. In the target box, it should show what its trying to open in quotation marks. Anything after the end quotation mark are attributes (for instance, some programs use a "-w" to start the program in a windowed mode).
  3. Try to follow the path in the target box and find where that file is located.
If the shortcut is sound we can move on. However, to save time, I need to know something and I need the truth. I am not Interpol nor do I care about trying to turn anyone in, but I need to know if this is a pirated game? If it is pirated, it changes the entire method of assisting you with this problem.

What game is it and does it produce an error when you open it? Also, after you run it, check and see if the executable it runs is located in your Task Manager under the Processes tab.

Ok, from what I read on Microsoft, this software is NOT compatible with Windows Vista 32-bit or 64-bit. That was found directly from:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/Details.aspx?type=Software&p=School%20Tycoon&v=Take-Two%20Interactive&uid=&pf=0&pi=5&c=PC%20Gaming&sc=Strategy&os=32-bit

However, checking the company's website, it mentions that some games that normally won't run in Windows Vista, can be ran in a "compatibility mode" which mimics Windows XP. Follow these steps and see if this corrects the problem:
  1. Right-click the shortcut for the game.
  2. Click the compatibility tab.
  3. Check the box for "Run this program in compatibility mode".
  4. Select Windows XP SP2 (or Windows 98 if XP does not work) from the drop down menu.
  5. Click Apply
  6. Click OK
  7. Start the game
It should run in Windows XP SP2. If it doesn't you can try Windows 98 to be sure. If neither of these work, unfortunately, you may be unable to play this game.
