Same Problem

Apr 12, 2009

-   Same thing is happening to my P4 Nikon.  The format option in the menu settings is grayed out though and it skips right over it, not allowing the card to be formatted in the camera.  I've tried 1gb, 2gb, 8 gb cards, all same issue.  The slider switch on the cards have been tried in both locked and unlocked positions.  It still says
Memory Card is write protected" on the lcd.  If anyone knows how to fix this, will be very grateful!!! -   adamofocala

Hi there and welcome to FixYa.

Check your card, there is a little switch on the side of the card. One side says locked and the other side says unlocked. Move the switch to unlocked and put it back in and try it again.

- Ok then, have you formated the card in the camera using the menu? That should fix it. If it doesn't let me know. If it does, then you can change the rating to a FixYa.

- What model of Nikon are you using?

Mar 07, 2009

- Ok, so you have:

Turned the Mode Dial to Setup.
Then use the 4 way directional button to scroll down to format the memory card.
Then choose Format.
Then scroll right.
Then scroll up or down to Format.
Then press the ok button. It will say formatting.

Then your done. This will format your SD card if the switch on the card is unlocked.

Try it and let me know how it goes.

- Ok, here is your problem. Your trying to use a card that's too big for your camera. Try a smaller card and you will see a difference.
