Question about Kenmore 80412 Microwave Oven

1 Answer

Remove Kenmore Mod. # 5648598601 from wall.

I want to replace the internal light bulb on my Kenmore Over the Range Microwave oven Model No. 5648598610. To accomplish this, it must be removed from installed location. Exactly how is it attached to the back wall? If I can see how it's installed, I believe I can uninstall it. Thanks in advance for you help.

Maybe a lot of them can be accessed from behind the vent cover, but not this old baby. I need to get it off the wall but I don't know how it is attached to the bracket that is screwed into the wall. Is it sitting on a couple of tabs? Should the whole assembly come off once I have removed the 4 screws at the top? After I removed them, the unit still is attached. How do I unattach it?

Thanks for trying. I've given up. I went to the parts store at Sears (it's a Kenmore) and they were no help at all (part of why we no longer shop there). They offered to send out a repair man but I just couldn't bring myself to pay anybody $60.00 to change a light bulb. I found out that I can buy the old installation manual for only $3.49. Which I might have done, except the shipping was $6.99. Screw it. I'll just keep microwaving in the dark and never buy another Kenmore anything.

    Paul.

A lot of those you can replace the bulb without taking it down. There should be screws at the top that lossen up the vent in the front. Remove the vent, might have to open the door and slide it to the left (a little latch) then you should see a filter that just comes out and behind that is the bulb. I would try that before taking it down Forgot to mention that in the other e-mail.

It should be sitting on those 2 tabs on the bottom but if it doesn't tilt forward after taking out the screws from the top I'm not sure. I have seen some that have a little pull latch in the upper right hand corner that holds it up for easier 1 man installation but I wouldn't think it would have one on a unit that old. It had 4 screws on the top? Hmm

How do you change the bulb in a Kitchenaid microwave Model KBMC140HSS03

Hello & Welcome to FixYa

To replace the light bulb first remove the screws located on the vent grill at the top of the microwave, tilt the grill back and then pull away to remove. After this open the light cover , you have to remove the screws so that you can discard the old light bulb and then replace it with a new one. Please get back to me if you have any other questions.

Where is the internal light bulb in the sears elite microwave convection oven

Hi there, I'm just running out the door, but came across your question after checking my solutions, and thought I'd give you a quick run through on where most lights bulbs on microwaves are usually located. One, they're either on the outer left side of the microwave (look for 4 phillip head screws within a cover approx. 3''wide x 4" long). If not there, then it's located on the top of the oven. Remember, before you remove anything...first, remove the plug from the wall outlet (receptacle) Again, you'll be removing 4 phillip head screws. Then, after removing the top cover (sometimes, you'll have to slide one way or the other, then lift) look again for the 4 phillip head screws within a cover approx. 3" W x 4" L. Remove this cover, unscrew bulb, and then replace with the same bulb. Its best to remove the bulb first, then take it with you to your nearest appliance store. This will help make it easier for the clerk helping you. Then, after you replace and secure all your covers and screws, and are completely done...you can plug your oven back into the wall outlet.  Then turn it on to check and see if your lights back on and in operating order. I wish you the best of luck, and if you have any more questions regarding this matter, feel free to contact me again. Jim

Does anyone know how to replace the light inside the oven? not the light that shines down. The oven does not light when you use it. The GE manual does not seem to have any information on this or any of...

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number from the tag on the oven here.

If there's no obvious removable cover over the bulb and the owner's manual doesn't address it, then disassembly will be required.

You'll need to remove the outer cover (wrapper) to get to the bulb.

Always unplug a microwave before removing or installing any bulbs.

If it's an over the range type, remove the vent grille across the top and see if bulbs can be accessed there. There may be a panel on the bottom covering the light(s), instead.

If not, chances are you'll have to remove it from the wall, then remove the outer cover. If so, the installation instructions are very handy, and it's best to have two people since the microwave can be heavy and awkward.

You can download GE owner's manuals and installation instructions here.

Once it's out of the wall, the outer cover (wrapper) will need to be removed, just as you'll need to do on a counter top model.

On a counter top model, be sure it's unplugged, but otherwise ignore the instructions above this paragraph.

You'll need to remove the outer cover (wrapper) to get to the bulb.

See these links before proceeding:
http://www.microwavedisplay.com/safety.txt
http://www.microwavedisplay.com/disassembly.txt

The screws you need to remove should be pretty obvious, but a special driver (such as a T20H type or GTXH20-100) may be needed.

Be sure to put all the screws back in the right holes, since some may be special grounding screws.

Bulbs (and 20A ceramic fuses) can be had locally in most grocery stores, hardware stores, home improvement centers, and big box or department stores.

Many models use halogen lamps. You must not touch halogen types with your bare skin, as the oils will shorten the bulb life.

Kenmore 363.6367 internal light doesn't go on

I had the same problem! I was soooo frustrated! But, when my brother came to town, he took off the grill on the top of the micro hood, took out a few more screws, a plastic screen, another screw in the metal cover for the light and then reached in with his fingers to pull out the light bulb, we replaced it, then re-assembled it. It did take us about 30 minutes to do the job and you will need a phillips screwdriver, and a phillips screwdriver drill bit thing, but we were able to do it. I love having the light in the microhood again.

Power outage now microwave won't work

Most likely blew internal fuse. Pull the top/side cover off and check the line fuse. It should be behind the control panel in that area.

The first step is to unplug the oven before changing bulbs!

I have a diagram at my site which helps you find & replace many cooktop and cavity light bulbs. It's at http://207.234.249.73/mwd/ge_lamp_replacement.jpg

TO BIGDEEL

Do you mean your internal cooling fan or the hood / vent / exhaust fan?

If it's ther internal cooling fan, do not use the microwave or the magnetron will overheat and be damaged or destroyed.

The problem is likely on the control panel, which we repair nationwide for $39.95 postpaid.

This light failure often occurs when a bulb goes out and the filament shorts, or when the bulbs are removed or installed without first unplugging the oven from the power line. Either can cause such a failure on the controller.

This often can affect the exhaust fan operation, too. The lights and fan can be inopoerable or stuck on.

If you or a friend decide to look into it, we have critical safety information, info on door switch diagnosis and replacement, and

disassembly information at our site, linked here on Fixya: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

You can enter your full actual model number at either the GE or Sears parts site listed below and get exploded view diagrams and parts lists. On many newer ovens, they have to be removed from the wall so you can remove the outer cover to replace the bulbs on top of the chassis, in the rear, or near the hood openings. This is a safety measure to protect the customer from line voltage and high voltage. It's important to have clean and dry hands when you handle the new bulb, especially if it's a halogen type.
