I can't upload photos onto my computer/laptop

This is the first time this has ever happened to me, but i went to go and put photos from my olympus camera to my laptop and the first dozen or so out of 60 worked and the rest of them wouln't work. It came up with a little sign saying that it couldn't be copied and to skip and try the next one and I did so but it wouldnt take to any of them at all. At the end it said 'see detailed error information' so I clicked that and another sign popped up saying 'the following problem occured while copying pictures: the parameter is incorrect'. I tried to upload the pictures on another computer and the same thing occured. I have no idea what this means or what a 'parameter' is or how to fix it without losing my pictures on my camera. Could somebody please help me in talking me through how I can fix it or if I should just delete the photos on my camera and hope it won't happen again and I just can't have those ones or something please! Thank you very much! Danni Hello! I really want to put pictures onto the computer because i have pictures of friends which i miss and i just want to because i have been trying for a very long time now and i never seem to put them on because it does not let me for some reason. Maybe im doing it wrong! I dont know. But, its off my fone. x I can't upload photos to computer

Hi Danni. Thanks for coming to FixYa.

Do you have a memory card in your camera? And did you format the card in the camera (via the menu) before you took pictures with it?
If so, my solution is not what you want to hear, and I'm sorry.

Before you use a memory card in your camera, you have to format it in the camera first. If you don't, it won't work. The camera will not save your pictures to the card properly and they will mess up.

Again, I'm sorry. But I wanted to tell you so you don't have to have this happen again. Don't let my bad news stop you from rating this a fixya. At least you know now. If you have any questions, you can leave me a comment and I'll answer you back.

ALTERNATE WAY TO TRANSFER PHOTOS AND VIDEOS TO A COMPUTER
If your photos and videos are stored on the memory card, then remove the memory card from the camera and insert it into an USB memory card reader. Connect this USB memory card reader and memory card into the USB port of your working computer. Your computer will see this as an USB Mass Storage Device or an external storage device; you can then open the folder on the memory card and copy the photos and to your computer. Memory card reader is a handy device and is inexpensive. You can copy photos from other cameras and you can also download photos off your memory card to someone else's computer without the need of installing any programs.

I can't upload photos onto my computer/laptop

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Picasa.

I can't upload photos onto my computer/laptop

Sounds like your card may have become corrupted. Try another card and if it uploads normally, the original card is bad. There are some programs that will allow you to recover the data, but after that...lose the card and use another.

Unable to view downloaded photos on camera screen

I had a Camedia 560 and it had this problem. Take a picture and then look at your memory card or camera from the computer. I think you will see that there is a complicated structure of folders - the pictures are in one folder and there is some kind of index file in another folder. The camera cannot display pictures restored from the computer unless you restore the index files as well as the picture files. Sorry I can't remember the details, but one way to do it would be to copy every last thing on the memory card. Not very convenient. This is a design flaw - my new camera doesn't have the problem and will display any picture I copy to it provided it was taken on the camera and not rotated or cropped. It doesn't mind other editing like putting a caption in the photo with a paint program. Panasonic Limix.
