I am trying to find a D-Link DI 714 Access router. Its the one with 4 net
ports and 1 serial port. Does anyone know of another manufacture of routers
which have both 10 base T and serial ports?
Thanks
Frank

The DI-713P had both a serial and a parallel port. As someone has
mentioned, the serial port may be used to network a standalone modem
with a DB9 connector so you can share a dialup connection without ICS.
The DI-713P is not compatible with the range extender. That's one
problem. The other problem I had with mine was that its signal was
off more than it was on. It took me several calls and emails to
persuade D-Link that the unit was defective. I'm in the process of
sending it in for replacement.

Well, maybe I posted too soon. I see there is an old DI-714
model which does have a serial port for a backup modem. Oh
well...
The old Orinoco RG-1000 has a built-in modem. Works great if you
don't have DSL or cable and still need to use dialup. And yes, I
do have an old one that I never bothered to sell (but would love
to get rid of) :-).

Are you sure you're not confusing your terminology? The DI-714P
has a parallel port, not serial. Printers connect to parallel
ports, and that's what the DI-714P has support for. What do you
want to network with a serial port?

Most all of them do.
Linksys.
Siemens.
(even Microsoft is in this hardware market now...overpriced, though)
You might consider going to, say, Circuit City, or whatever is near you.
They
will have at least 4 different vendor's products, and you can chat with
person there,
or just read the boxes. These products are much more THE SAME than
different.
Cheers...
