How fast of an amd athlon processor can i use in a biostar m7mkb?
The motherboard is by biostar and i have a 651 mhz amd athlon processor slot a type in it and it runs windows xp great but i just came across a program that wanted an 800 mhz processor before it would let me install. Wondering what the fastest processor the motherboard would handle before purchasing one?

Select the model motherboard you have and click on the CPU support link, it will show you a list of CPU's that are supported. You have a socket 939 board and AMD CPU's are now AM2, AM2+ and AM3 socket, which are 940 pin. It may be difficult to find a new CPU for your motherboard that is new since they have not been made in awhile.
All current 333 MHz capable Socket A chipsets (VIA KT333, KT400,
nVIDIA nForce2, SiS 746FX) should be compatible with Barton based processors
although you may need to flash the BIOS for the processor to recognized properly your board has a 333mhz front side bus so should be capable of running them You must ensure that the cpu is for 333 mhz and not more and that it fits socket A which your board is Please post rating thanks

Your M/B support Socket 462 (also called Socket A) is a PGA socket designed for AMD K7 family
of processors. This socket can be used with AMD Athlon and Duron processors
ranging in speed from 600 MHz to 2200 MHz (3200+) and with bus frequences
ranging from 100 MHz to 200 MHz (400 MHz DDR)
Athlon (Socket A) (600 MHz - 1400 MHz) Athlon XP (1333 MHz - 2333 MHz, or 1500+ - 3200+) Athlon MP (1000 MHz - 2133 MHz) Duron (550 MHz - 1800 MHz) Sempron (socket A) (1500 MHz - 2200 MHz, or 2200+ - 3300+) Mobile Athlon 4 (850 MHz - 1400 MHz) Mobile Athlon XP-M (Socket A) (1200 MHz - 2200 MHz, or 1400+ - 3000+) Mobile Duron (650 MHz - 1200 MHz)
I Recommend to go for Athlon XP with good cooling fan. :)
