Hi there,
It may sound too simple, but most laptops have a manual switch that turns the nic card on and off. It saves battery power. It's on the outside of your laptop somewhere, usually on the front. Check see if you didn't just overlook that.

    hii
    For the wireless settings;
    1. Make sure your machine is set to obtain an IP and DNS settings
    automatically and;
    2. Your wireless key is appropriately set with the key you configured
    in the router. (depending on your ISP, your wireless key may also be
    printed on the bottom of the router)

    Under "Under network & sharing center", click "Manage Wireless
    Network", and configure the wireless settings (including the wireless
    authentication method and key) that is appropriate for your router...

    thank u!!

Hi

Which OS(vista/xp) are you using?What is the make and model of your router? Have you setup the connection between your new compaq and the router by going into wireless settings in control panel.

    Try using a static ip on it. Look at the mac address used on the router, is it binded to a single mac address(you can see this in the settings of your router)

    After you have checked this, go to WiFi(wireless) networks option in your control panel and click on "Configure" and you will be able to see your network's SSID in the "Available Networks."

    Now enter your network's SSID and WEP key. And, now click on "Start," then choose "Connect To" and "Wireless Network Connection."

    Your computer should now be able to access the WiFi network if the WiFi network is connected to the Internet.

    Please ask for further clarifications.

    Thanks
    Rylee

Compaq nc6000 wifi connection very unstable

There are a few things that can cause you to lose wireless connection with your wireless router. 1. Weak signal strength, check the signal strength on your wireless card. If it is weak move the wireless router away from brick or concrete walls and if possible locate the wireless router higher up. 2. Have you secured your wireless router from people near your from unauthorized access? i.e. change the default password, setup encryption use WPA2 or WPA, change the default SSID, and turn off SSID broadcast, and for added protection, enable MAC address filtering which allows only the MAC address/es of your wireless card/s to connect to your wireless router. 3. You could be getting interference from electrical sources such as air conditioners, arc welders, washing machines etc. If so, the power supply to the wireless routers and computers etc should be connected to a surge protection power board, better still connect your computer equipment to an UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supply). 4. Check the channels of the wireless routers and access points in your area and change the broadcast channel on your wireless router to an unused channel or one that is currently used but has the weakest signal strength. This will minimize interference with your wireless router from other wireless routers and access points in your area.

If you get a 'Limited connectivity" on you wirelessconnection on your laptop, it means that the wireless card on your laptopprobably did not get an IP address from the wireless router.

Hey can anyone help me, my Compaq nc6000 won't connect to wireless networks it says something about a smart card.

Access the router by means of an ethernet cable and log into the router. Go into the wireless setting of the router and select WPA-AES as the security protocol and select a password. Then go into your wireless settings on the notebook and do the same.

Compaq nc6000 laptop wireless connection

Wireless connection? If so, make sure the wireless device is enabled on the newer one. If it's a red light, the wireless device may be faulty. If so, just get an external USB wireless device and use that. Check to see that the same lights are on with both PCs.

My neighbor's signal

If your neighbors know that your using their router, you might ask them to reset it. If they moved it, this could cause the weakening of the signal, walls drastically decrease a wireless signal. You might also refresh your wireless card by uninstalling the wireless drivers and reinstalling them.
