I am assuming that you are talking about the overload button on the electric motor.
This is a safety device that takes the motor out of the circuit so it does not burn up when it is overloaded.
One thing to look for is either wrong voltage being supplied to the unit or the motor could be wired wrong.
Some motors are "Dual" voltage, meaning, they can work on 120v or 208-230 v.
If this is an old unit, the overload may have lost it's sensitivity. Meaning, it is too sensitivity. Trips out too early when it really does not need to.
There could also be a pressure switch that can cause other safety devices to trip. Take a good close look at how the safety devices are used in the circuit.

Good luck

Compressor was running and suddenly just stopped no power

I don't know what specific model you have but, there is a resettable circuit breaker somewhere on your compressor, they all have one. They are usually on the motor itself somewhere around the edge of the endcaps. It may be remotely located on the motor shroud or casing. It will be a small round button about the size of a pencil eraser either white or black and sometimes they have a number around 15 to 20 stamped on them to indicate what amperage they will pop at. After the motor cools all you have to is push the button back in and it should work. The reason most pop is due to running the compressor on an extension cord or it the power cord on the compressor is compromised, i.e. partially cut or broken wires inside the cord or a missing ground prong.

I have a 30 Gal. sanborn air compressor the auto shutoff will not kick off i have to turn it off by hand

Hi tarver4...

Your pressure shut off is faulty...replace your pressure shut off and all will be normal...
Take your old valve with you so that you will get the right one...
Check at home style centers for a replacement or industrial hardware like Graingers,HomeDepot,Loews, Ace Hardware...etc.
Please take time to rate me thumbs up

Air compressor want build over 40LBS air!

It sounds to me like you have a bad pressure switch. When these go bad, it takes less pressure to close or open the contacts to shut the motor down. You can get a replacement from any Ace Hardware. It will come with basic install instructions. Just follow those and you should be fine.

Have an emglo that will not start. Replaced the pressure switch with no result. Anything else to look for>?

may have tripped the overload look for a reset button allot of them have the number 15 on the tip of the button try pushing it in and see if it starts or if it is buzzing when you try and turn it on it most likely is the capacitor

Doe not run. is there a reset button

Yes there is a reset button on the motor.
You can see it from the front of the compressor but it is a little hard to see and get to so you will have to get it at eye level to get a good view.
These will normally trip is you have low current or are running the compressor on an extension cord.

The breaker in the motor keeps kicking on and off, is the reset

I'm assuming that you're pushing in the red button to reset it to restart the motor? Check to see what the air pressure is when the compressor shuts off. If it's higher that rated, then perhaps lowering the pressure will prevent the motor overload. If you have an amp meter, check the amp reading and compare it to the amp rating on the motor nameplate.

Out side ace compressor stop working. whats the most comment problem that you see when something like this happend. something i could reapleace my self.

Check the fuse in the house, the reset button on the motor, check the cord. How about the oil? If all this checks out, it is the capacitor. They do go bad now and then. Take the old one off and don't touch the connectors, take it to the store and match it up, I think they can test your capacitor there, check it out.
