Question about Sony Video Cameras

1 Answer

Record off the tv.

I have a Jazz Elite Hi-Definition Video Camera HDV-188. I want to know if i could record off the tv without having to just point the camcorder to the tv.

My tv. only has a white and red output. The camcorder only has a yellow and white cord.

Is it possible to record off the tv with this camcorder without just pointing it to the tv?

No, my tv does not have a RF out jack.
Yes, i do have a VCR.
Yes, my jazzy has an RCA type video input jack. (Only yellow and white)

And thanks for responding Rob :)

Ok Rob, the VCR and TV are hooked up just like you said, but i have a feeling im doing something wrong.

The camcorder hooks up fine to the VCR, the camera just doesnt record off the T.V.

I think i told you something wrong. I dont think my camcorder has a RCA type video input jack.

Here's what my camcorder looks like on the side:http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/cc221...

The hole i circled in that pic has the "earphone" symbol and the word TV labeled under it. The yellow and white RCA cable that came with my camcorder only fits in that hole.

    What should i do Rob?

Aww thanks Rob. I kinda figured that anyway, i just wasnt sure

You honestly were a big help. You might see one of my questions on here again.

    Take care :P

Hi there and welcome to FixYa.

Hmmm. Ok, I need to know a few things. Does your TV have an RF out jack? Do you have a VCR? And last but not least...does your Jazzy have an RCA type video input jack?

Let me know and depending on your answers, I have a workaround you can use.

    Ok, here we go.

To get video and audio in to your Jazzy, your going to need your VCR (since you don't have an RF out on your TV). I am certain that your VCR has RCA outs, should be 1 yellow, 1 red, and 1 white...correct?

Ok. Now, Do you have a cable modem, or a satallite modem? Either way...do this:

    1) Come out of one of your modem with an RF cable and connect it to the RF In on the VCR.

    2) Take another RF cable and connect it from the RF out on the VCR to the RF In on the TV (assuming you have an RF In on the TV, let me know if you don't).

    3) Take the RCA Yellow from the Yellow Video Out on your VCR to your Jazzy Yellow Video In.

    4) Take the RCA White from the White Audio out on your VCR to your Jazzy White RCA In.

You are going to have to set up your TV and VCR channels so you can watch TV on your regular TV, but this will enable you to record your TV onto your Jazzy. Also note, the sound is going to be monaural since you only have 1 white jack, so when you play it back, the sound will not be in stereo (just FYI).

Also, also note, if by chance your modem has the Yellow and White RCA outs, you can skip the VCR all together.

Hope this helps you out. If you have any questions, or if something is not working out right...let me know in a comment. If it's all good, please rate my solution, and thanks for coming to FixYa.

Well, I just took a look at the manual for your Jazzy and I have bad news. There is no video input jack on your camcorder. The jack you told me about initially is a video out jack. It's so you can play movies you recorded on your Jazzy to your TV.

I'm sorry. There is nothing weI can do about it. :-(

    Rob

Ps. Don't bother rating my solution a "thanks for trying"...it will only hurt my rating. Look on the bright side, just enjoy your Jazzy for what it's meant for...recording the fun times of your life!

The camera will charge and will record if it is plugged in. As soon as it's unplugged from the power source, the camera no longer works. Any suggestions? Thanks !

is the camera still under warranty? it sounds like the battery is no longer charging on the camera. If still under warranty you could bring it back to where you bought it from.
Otherwise you may need to get a replacement battery, ebay is probably your best bet.
Hope this helps!
