I need to clean the heads on my Panasonic PV-8664 VCR. How can I do it myself without using a head-cleaning tape? I've viewed general head-cleaning tutorials online, but it's not clear how best...

SIr try to remove the cover of your vcr then you will see the tape head of your vcr it is cylindrical shape when you see your tape head try to use a bond paper to wipe the surroundings but be carefull you might damage the sensor do not use cloth and cotton. good day and best regards.

My vcr chewed up a tape and now it is not working right. When you put a tape in the vcr, "PLAY" will come on the screen as if it is going work. Then it goes to a blue screen and turns off.

If you are a handy person you could first unplug the VCR from the power outlet and remove the cover to see if some of the tape that was chewed up is wrapped around some of the tape path mechanism.
If you know someone techie who has some experience let them look at it and throw them a $20 for cleaning it.
May be best to just purchase a new DVD/VCR .

DVR will not operate.

It definitely needs to be repaired. If you're resetting the unit properly and the problem remains, you will likely need to get the unit repaired or replaced.

Transfer uverse to vcr

make a small drawing of he back of the vcr and t.v. take this to an electrical shop that is your most local you are much much better off going to a samll independent shop as aposed to a larger chain of shops, they are generally more knowledgeable and have usually been in that job much longer and will direct you straight to the type of lead you need ,there are lots of different types of lead on older model vcrs, in the uk we have a 21 pin scart lead that does all jobs, but goto small independent shop and get it ight first time, please leave feedback

Vcr keeps saying safe

Try this: (actually found in user manual...)

Pro-Tect Plus™ (Child Lock) Feature

This feature is useful to tamper proof your timer recordings from unwanted changes

and/or protect the VCR from mis-operation by other users in the household.

To Lock the VCR

Press and hold POWER or VCR on the remote for

approximately six seconds to turn on the Pro-Tect Plusª

SAFE appears in the VCR front panel to let you know the

feature is activated.

To Unlock the VCR

Press and hold VCR button on the remote for approximately

six seconds to unlock the VCR.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue.
If I have helped you, please help me, and rate this suggestion the highest FixYa rating. (Two Thumbs Up) If you cannot rate this post with the highest rating, then please comment to this post and I will try to help you further.

Tape won't stay in and play

The carriage might be misaligned because the tape is not even loading, in addition it may be one of the tape position sensors are going bad. These are the common reasons for this problem happening.

I hope this helps,

Thank you,
