Universal Serial Bus can't read flash disk - PC Desktops

    When I attach USB Flash,i can't see any device in my computer. But i can "safe remove it". WHat to do in that case?

Update the drivers sometimes thats all thats needed, or uninstall the flash disc and put into a different usb port

No usb ports recognized

First, please disconnect all USB devices and then perform the following steps: Click "Start" button, type "devmgmt.msc" (without quotation marks) in the "Search" bar and press "Enter". Click "Continue" if necessary.

In Device Manager, double click to expand "Universal Serial Bus controllers", right click on the Host Controller, click "Uninstall" and click "OK".

Repeat the step 2 to uninstall all items under "Universal Serial Bus controllers".
Then, restart your computer and Windows 7 will reinstall all USB controllers automatically.

for XP or earlier

Click start right click on computer select properties device manager scroll down universal serial bus controllers you could see a yellow question / exclamation mark? ! or a red X

you will need to update/reinstall drivers right click to reinstall drivers

if you can see your usb drive but its not working
ports (com&lpt) right click update driver if this fails to fix the problem

Check the USB leads that attach to the motherboard usually red white green black make sure they are securely seated and have no dust build up on them dust will cause static and a lot of unforeseen problems to a computer and its parts

How to format flash drive? can't open the flash drive.


You have to be the computers administrator to change any values on any hard drive on your computer.


Click start control panel user accounts on the users tab click the name of the computer administrator you must have full control


Click start click to open on my computer you should see your usb drive could be E: or something right click select properties there will be an array of options

select the sharing tab option then advanced sharing make sure you have a tick in the share this folder box


then click permissions make sure you have all 3 boxes ticked full control changes and read in windows 7


Click start control panel user accounts click on the administrators account if you have made one or you will have to create one in windows XP

First, please disconnect all USB devices and then perform the following steps:

My memerysticks stop working when i put in i cannot see my my home work on screen


Follow the steps given below to refresh USB ports.

1. Right-click My Computer icon on the desktop, and then select Properties.
2. Click the Hardware tab.
3. Click the Device Manager button.
4. Click the plus (+) sign to the left of Universal Serial Bus controllers.
5. Right-click the device listed under Universal Serial Bus controller and select Uninstall.
6. Click OK to confirm the removal of the device.

Please note, repeat Steps 5 and 6 until all the devices under Universal Serial Bus Controller are removed.

7. Shut down the computer.

CAUTION: Ensure that the Shut Down option is selected, instead of the Restart option.

8. Wait for 5 seconds and then restart the computer. When the computer restarts, a "Windows has detected new or added hardware" message window will open.

The above steps will refresh the USB ports.

Now connect the USB devices like mouse, video camera, your external usb hard disk...usb hubs...whatever you like and the drivers should install automatically.

Tip: It is always recommended to connect the main usb devices at the rear end usb port, as they require more power to initiate.

HP s7700n - all USB ports have stopped working. Device Manager shows drivers are okay. I'm thinking the bridge chip on the motherboard has failed. Any other ideas?

The front 3 usb ports are not working along with all the card readers. In device manager they show to be working properly.

Cannot get (device manager ) to work , problems with usb drivers


go to start-> run in it enter devmgmt.msc to enter the device manager from there find the Universal Serial Bus Right Click on it and uninstall it .
Again Right Click on Universal Serial Bus and Click Scan for hardware changes.

Set not recognizing usb flash drive .when a usb flash drive is inserted system tries to locate drivers but then fail to find suitable drivers and as aresult cannot read flash drive


Try the stick at all the usb ports. Sometimes when other usb peripherals are connected, something like "usb priority" is notisable.

is you universal serial bus driver installed on your computer properly have you try the usb flash drive in more than one usb hub try that vote for me thanx

My USB ports don't work


good day,,

your usb port has the problem.. try to follow this steps:

1. Try to check if the usb bus is installed, to do this right click on my computer
2. Click manage
3. Click Device manager
4. On the right side click on the plus sign of the universal serial bus controller
5. Check if all the item is in correct

if you are done and then the problem is still the same,try this one

1. Re-install your motherboard chipset
2. Ensure to install and try to look if the computer install the usb serial bus controller

Compac n6000 usb port problem


The issue could be due to corrupt USB Driver. I will give you a few steps to re-install the Drivers.
Please perform the following steps to uninstall USB Port.
1. Right-click on My Computer icon and select Properties.
2. Click Hardware tab. Click the Device Manager button and double-click the Universal Serial Bus Controllers.
3. Select a device listed under Universal Serial Bus Controller, right-click and Uninstall.
4. Click Yes to confirm the uninstallation of the device.

NOTE: Repeat step 3 and 4 until all the devices under Universal Serial Bus Controller are removed.

The USB port is now uninstalled. Now, restart the system. The system automatically detects and reinstalls the USB port.

Step 2:-

Try the following update for the USB port.
