Question about Desa International White Wireless Plug In Door Chime

1 Answer

I have two door chimes with the same frequemcy, but different codes. I need to place the chimes in different rooms as I am hard of hearing. How do I match both codes so that they ring at the same time when the bell-push is activated?

You need to change the pin configuration in both the remote buttons to match each other, (as well as the bell unit) just make sure they match on both bell units. Also, since one works just use that configuration and change the button pin configuration that does not work to the button that does on the other button unit.

Setting the codes for the door chime

Presuming that you are asking how to set codes for the Desa International door chime, here's a solution:

There are two components of the Desa door chime --- the ringer assembly and the door button. Inside each component is a set of eight pairs of pins and several square-ish plastic jumpers. To set a code, you must push jumpers onto the pair of pins for each of three different numbers. (You may find that you have more than three jumpers. If so, the others are spares which you can tell because they will only be covering one of the two pins in a pair.) Whatever three numbers you choose, the ringer and button must match exactly. 5-6-7 seems to be the default set-up as delivered from the factory. This is only a problem if anyone else in the neighborhood also has a Desa chime with this setting. If you use pin 8, the ring changes from a two-tone chime to a 16-note sequence.

Good luck!

What is the range for my doorbell or do I need an amphliphier?

These units (not just this brand) seem to be notoriously under-powered, particularly if there is any substantial structure (brick, stone, etc.) between the pushbutton and the chime unit. Try to locate the two pieces as close to each other as possible. Make sure the pushbutton unit has fresh batteries. If practical, mount the pushbutton unit on the door itself instead of the door frame (but only if the door is NOT made of metal.) *Disclaimer: I am not a lawyer, despite the handle. The doorbell buttons and your receiver must be on the same channel. If you will get out the directions that came with your unit, they will describe the process to go through to reset the specific "codes" for your buttons and receiver.

I changed the batteries on my door bell, and it still wont ring

Troubleshooting
Chime does not sound:
• Make sure the doorbell button and the chime codes are the same (See pages
2 and 3).
• Check orientation of doorbell button battery (See page 3).
• Check the doorbell button and chime batteries, replace if necessary.
Batteries seem OK, but the chime does not work when installed:
• Do not mount the chime or doorbell button on metal or near metal studs. This
reduces the transmitter range. Use 1/4" to 1/2" (6 to 13 mm) wood shims to
move the chime or doorbell button off the metal surface.
• Don't mount the chime too close to ground level concrete slabs. This may
also reduce the range. Mount the chime away from the floor.
• Try different locations for the chime closer to the doorbell button. Also try to
orient the chime at a different angle to increase the range.
The range of the doorbell depends on location, temperature and battery
condition.

Wireless doorbell rings by itself

Doorbell button is sticking or slightly pressed in. Check to see if cover is installed correctly. It may be on on one side.
