Ipod won't power on. Computer won't recognize it.

Step 1: Check to see if your iPod can still be charged by charging it using a wall charger and wait for it to fully recharge.
Step 2: If it does charge fully, try using your iPod normally and see how long it lasts. If it lasts for only 2 hours, your iPod battery may be dying. If it doesn't charge at all your iPod may be dead.
Step 3: If either of the cases are true then you have two options:
  1. If your iPod is less than a year old, you can bring in your iPod to the Apple Store and have it replaced for free on the spot as part of its 1 year warranty.
  2. If it is older than 1 year, you can go to the Apple Store and have them replace the battery for a fee
  3. If you are looking for a new iPod anyway, go to the Apple Store with your old iPod, and tell them you are looking for a new iPod. They will give you a 10% discount when you hand your old one in.

On deaf ear

sounds like headphone jack is either dirty or loose in the unit or a possible blown fuse.

if still under warrenty I would get it serviced if not then if you feel comfortable opening it up and looking around the inside of the unit around the sounds output jack then you can try that and see if you can find any blown or burnt problems around there loose connections.

Secret Apple iPod Deals That Can Save You $$$

It's been my experience when talking to many users here and in real life that many people aren't aware of Apple's policy in terms of their products. Many people have an issue with their iPod when its close to the one year mark. It might be because their iPod might have something like a brightness issue, or a dead battery, or something weird all together. Here are a few tips that you might find come in handy.
Secret 1:You just bought an iPod less than a year ago and now its starting to act up, or not act at all - like a dead battery. Your iPod usually comes with a 1 year warranty as soon as you buy it. It should cover most issues. This means, you should go to the Apple Store and they will most likely replace one for you for free on the spot! How sweet is that?
Secret 2: So you have had your iPod and its over a year, what do you do? Well if you are looking to get a new iPod, you can bring in your old one and buy a new one for 10% off. It's part of Apple's recycling program!
Secret 3: Let's say you have a pretty old iPod and its almost dead, and you just want a newer iPod. The Apple Store online has refurbished items from last year that saves you up to $70. I know what you are thinking "ew, refurbished?" But there is nothing wrong with refurbished iPods. They have been made to perform like new, and come with a standard 1 year warranty, so if anything happens, you're covered.
Secret 4: Still don't know how to use your iPod yet? Go to the Apple website and schedule a Genius Appointment, they would be happy to help you learn how to use your iPod forfree! http://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar/
Secret 5: When Black Friday comes around, its sometimes the best deal you can get on iPods. Go to Wal-mart, Target, Newegg, and other electronic dealer's websites, sometimes they have deeply discounted prices on brand new iPods. I found a 32GB iPod with accessories for $279!
With these tips, you might strike big savings with your next iPod!

8GB Ipod touch, won't charge any more, won't take a charge from the computer USB or the wall charger? What to do?

It seems like your iPod's battery has outrun its use.
There are 3 options you can choose from:
  1. If it is less than a year old, you can go to the Apple Store and they will replace the device for free on the spot as part of their 1 year warranty.
  2. You can choose to pay someone at the Apple Store a fee to replace the battery if it is older than a year
  3. If you are looking to get a new iPod anyway, bring an old one into an Apple Store, tell them you are looking to buy a new one, and you will get 10% off.

Problem with the sound

Go to the manufacturers website and check if they have had similiar problems- also look to how long your warranty was - 1year or two or three. If it is a one year warranty you may be able to get them on their 'implied warranty', in that as a company they stand by their products - if not jump up and down and contact consumer affairs.
