If your car is covered by new car manufacturer warranty of 3 years or whatever period and you make a claim on that warranty within the warranty period the obligation of the manufacturer is subject to the terms and conditions of the warranty.

If you have failed to abide by a condition of the warranty a warranty claim can be rejected. You need to read the warranty term and conditions carefully.


If the renault warranty provides that the company will cover any major deterioration in the body work, such as rust, not caused by owner use, owner neglect , owner misuse and similar then you have a sound claim. But you need to read the exclusions carefully.

As for mechanical servicing, this is entirely irrelevent to body work surface deterioration as being late for a scheduled service has no bearing on what happens to the body work on the car. You could have had all mechanical services done on time and still had exactly the same issue with the body work occur when it did. Some issues can be directly subject to having mechanical servicing done on time because failure of on time mechanical servicing can be the direct cause or contributing cause of an issue.

You should not have any rust issues in a properly cared for new car still under warranty and if you do it will be a manufacturer quality control issue. When you had your mechanical servicing done is quite unrelated to and cannot be the cause of the problem.
Similarly, if your windscreen cracks because of poor quality glass or excessive body flexing in the vehicle that is unrelated to when you had your mechanical servicing carried out.

From the very little information you have provided, and if your car is under new car warranty it does appear that the manufacturer is looking for any sliver of an excuse not to rectify the issue. The dealership is in their hands for a decision . But it is also possible that the company will not pay the dealer sufficient cash to carry out the work needed and so in that event the dealer might be trying to fob you off because generally they make very little profit, if any profit, from genuine warranty work.

As mentioned before, the terms and conditions of your new car warranty is the important factor so check them carefully.

Hi Abby,

Most manufacturers do not warranty "damage from handling, misuse, neglect, accident" as that is not they way their products are intended to be used. Warranties usually apply to defects in workmanship and failures not associated with the list of things above.

This is why 3rd party warranty companies such as "Square Trade" came into being. These companies will offere to extend your manufacturer's warranty to 2, 3 or more years and offer protection from the types of problems they do not cover - drops, submersion, breakage, etc. Cost is based on the product, cost, length of warranty term and extent of coverage. As long as it wasn't stolen - return all the parts of the covered device for repair, replacement or reimbursement. You can also usually insure these products as a special "rider" on your homeowners insurance, too. Contact your agent to learn about the availability and cost of this coverage.

I bought a sony marine amp from Boaters world. It came with 1 year warranty I bought 2 year extended warranty. Amp is 10 months old and broken. boaters world is out of bussinees. Who can I return to?


Since the unit is less than one year old, Sony should repair it under warranty. Also, check the extended warranty parperwork. Normally the seller does not provide the actual warranty, they contract with a service company. That company should still be around. If you are not successful with Sony, please post the exact problem and model number and we'll try to get you up and running.

Defective is a pretty broad term. If the unit isn't working its defective. You should have at least a part warranty. I'm assuming you bought an extended warranty/ labor warranty.
