I have the exact problem. I have 2 SCH-A870s. One of them has stopped working with "CDMA service not available" message. The other one is working fine. Do I throw it out now? I am frustrated with this problem.

Hello ramsrira,
Unfortunately, CDMA phones cannot be converted to GSM. The two types of devices are very different, even though they do the same thing.

You will have to see your service provider. Tell them what area you were/are in when this error showed up. Is this problem continuous, or does it occur only in certain areas.

If it takes a sim card that may be all it needs, check with your local provider to try a new sim card. Good luck hope that works for you!!

I have a samsung through cricket and i live in colorado i took a plane to georgia and when i got there my phone didnt work and it said CDMA service not available how to i fix this

Hi,

This only means that there is no CDMA coverage on that area where you're at. For sure you'll have it back where CDMA signal is available.

If you go to http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20071231123152AAcz6sl you'll see that it is for the same reason

it means that there is no native or partner'd CDMA service
your phone may be able to pick up GSM frequencies but b/c Verizon is CMDA your phone can't not use GSM service
Source(s): Verizon network is CMDA
Sprint use CDMA, iDEN and a few others
the only national carriers that use GSM are T-mobile a German companies and ATT a US monopoly company
no major in the USA uses analog signals

CDMA Service is not available

Hi,

Try out on any other telecommunication service's CDMA sim card......if again, the same problem prevails then its clear that Samsung intensity handset isn't compatible to CDMA service but GSM service..

Unlock phone?

They sell these already unlocked on ebay by the hundreds. If you're attached to the one you have, you can find a cell phone store that will unlock it for you by visiting unlocktotalk.com to find a local store or send it in to unlocktotalk.com. They have a CDMA unlock mail-in service if there is not a local cell phone "flashing" store which provides this service in your area that can reprogram your phone to work with the new CDMA service of your choice. I suggest you log on to www.unlocktotalk.com to get details. It only costs about $20 and it is 100% legal. They openly advertise that they can unlock CDMA cell phones (or GSM-in a separate section of their website- if you need them to.)
