Wrong Power Supply

On Feb. 6 2009 I bougth an iM310 in USA. But instead of using the 5.0 V Altec Lansing switching power supply, my daughter used an Altec Lansing switching power supply for the iM600 which is 13.0 V (they both have the same plug in, so was easy to get confused ) now it does not work not with batteries either , now we are in Chile, South America and I was told that there is not service available for Altec Lansing here although the iM310 is sold here .
Any ideas what to do??

If it doesn't work with batteries or the supplied power supply than your speakers are fried. Sorry for the bad news.

Most likely has protection of some type so as to not fry the whole unit. Open it up and look for fried diodes where the positive power lead go's to the circuitry. Locate and replace diodes.

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

How can I splice Altec Lansing amplified speaker system 221 to ac power supply cord instead of the computer cord

Not a good idea. The receptacle that the computer cord plugs into has EMI filters in it. Bypassing it would cause an AC hum that you'd never be able to get rid of.

You will want to use a 1/8" to 1/8" Stereo patch cable similar to this one http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3612891 Just plug it into the headphones jack on your laptop then plug the other end into the jack on the back of your im310.

What power supply is required. The rear input

No. It is not recommended to use this power supply, since it outputs only 12 watts of power, whereas the required power to run your speakers is 26 watts.
You will have to use a power supply which outputs 13 VDC, with at least 2A.

Altec Lansing VS4121, New Speakers, No Sound

If the speakers are brand new it makes me wonder how you know they worked fine in the States? I am also wondering how they were transported due to them probably being intolerant to extremes of temperature/humidity and probably vibration.

I am also wondering if you are using the correct supply voltage and type of supply.
If you are using the power adaptor supplied for use in the USA, it would probably be incompatible with your supply even though you are using a transformer.

If you are certain the speakers are in good order I suggest you obtain a power adaptor designed for your 220 volt 50Hz supply. I have browsed a little and cannot find a note of the power requirements for the integrated amplifier but this is presumably marked on the adaptor, the speaker or in the manual and so the power adaptor could be checked on and off load with a suitable voltmeter. I would be surprised to learn the supply is adequate
