Question about Fax Machines

5 Answers

Rollers in final unit - the fixing unit - are badly scored - partly by the paper guides. Can I get the rollers themselves, or is it better to get the complete unit ? It is a second-hand machine, and I think may have been wrongly re-assembled after service.

The answer does not explain why I need to get the whole unit when a local repair centre could provide the rollers.

To make it sure and to give you satisfaction you should buy the fusing unit, but make sure that your machine is in good running condition so that your money will not be wasted.

Rollers are hard to find if your unit is an old one. Its worth investing your money for a new one.

You can purchase a separate roller but, replacing the entire unit will cost less.

You can get the rollers themselves but it is cheaper to replace the unit.

Paper jam when getting fax

Clean all the rubber rollers and guides with alcohol and a cotton ball, paper lint and dust collects on the rollers and causes slippage, cheap paper releases lint on the rollers also, get a can of air and blow it out, all the paper paths, look for tiny specs of broken paper in the paths.

REPEATED REAR PAPER JAMS-BROTHER INTELLIFAX 2820

Try making prints or copies with the rear door open. If it does not jam your fixing unit (hot area) is functioning properly. With the rear door closed try again making copies or prints. If it jams it's most likely the exit rollers acting up.

1. I've seen the exit sensor break on these units and sometimes the drive gears wear and do not feed properly.
2. If using after market toner or refills this may also coat the exit roller with a film which prevents the exit rollers from feeding parper out by reducing the friction of theses rollers. Clean with fantastic untill cloth does not turn black.

Paper problem

You need to check a few things.

One is make sure the paper is fanned before putting it in the tray. All that means is that you hold one end of the paper you are putting in and wave it gently as if you are fanning yourself. You should make a habit of this anyway. Sometimes two or more sheets of paper stick together when humidity changes ie it rains and the paper feed doesn't grip it properly.

Next place the paper in the tray or in the feeder and make sure that the feeder guides are set correctly. These hold the paper straight and guide it into the feeder roller. If they are too loose or too tight the paper will come off the pile at a an angle.Usually there are marks on the tray or feeder that show settings for various paper widths. They are usually right on for the setting but to be sure look at how the guides sit along side the paper. The paper should not be pinched or held too tight. They should just keep the sides of the paper in a nice straight even line. Also make sure the paper is seated well. You might want to check either the drawing on the tray or the manual to see if it wants to be up against the front or back Make sure you don't have too much paper in the tray.If you overfill or if you get humidity changes the paper can be pinched too tight.

Next check that the paper thickness adjustment is set for the weight of the paper you are using. This is a lever found by opening the case. If you check your manual it will tell you where it is and what to open to get at it. This lever adjusts the rollers so that they are closer or further apart. If you are using a lighter paper than the default factory setting the paper is thinner and the rollers won't grip it.

And lastly are you using the right paper. You should be using a good quality photocopy paper or spend more money and get the same stuff just labeled laser paper. It should be 24, 22 or 20 lb bond. You can buy cheap paper from time to time and it will be 18lb. This will feel flimsy compared to the right weight paper. Check your manual to see what your fax wants to use. If it says 22 lb (very common and good) then that is all you should use as that is what it is set up for.

If you have used the fax a lot then you can also have problems with dirty or worn feed rollers. These are the black rubber rollers inside. If you look at them they should be a dull black and not shiny. If they are shiny that means they are "polished" and won't grip the paper but tend to slip. The paper acts like a extremely fine sand paper and after tens of thousands of pages of good paper it will smooth off the rubber. This is normal wear. You can use isopropyl alcohol and a lint free paper towel to wipe down the rollers and this can clean them enough to make it work again. If after checking the paper, and trying to adjust the rollers with the lever you still have problems you may have a worn roller. They are usually not cost effective to replace and you are better to just get a new fax.

Paper jam in fuser

Sounds like a timing jam, check paper supply, fanned, good quality, check and clean paper feed rollers.
Registration rollers clean?

If you are a tech, check and clean paper feed clutches, registration clutch. Check fuser for bearings, fuser drive, fuser roller cleaner or worn rollers.
Check exit sensor, is it out of place, is the actuator worn out, is the paper curling and coming off of the paper too early,

Try these, hope it is of some help.

Document jam

I had this totally annoying problem this morning. After looking for any obvious paper jams or small bits of loose paper, I tried several fixes: 1) open front cover, release levers that hold white rollbar in place, roll the bar forward to make sure nothing is stuck behind it, snap levers back in place; DID NOT fix the problem; 2) open top cover, remove print cartridge, look for jammed paper bits, close cover; DID NOT fix the problem; 3) unplug the machine, wait a few minutes, turn machine back on; DID NOT fix the problem. I even unplugged the machine, opened ALL the covers, turned the machine upside down and shake it to see if any paper clips, staples, or other objects have fallen inside the machine; DID NOT fix the problem. FINALLY, I pulled the paper feed tray forward, reached down to the feed rollers, twisted them a few turns, put paper back in the machine, and the "paper jam" message disappeared! This may not work for everyone, but it worked for me today, so I hope this helps someone out there to have a better day.

Fax machine problem brother 1820c

The ADF rollers may be dirty or may even be damaged. To determine this, 1. Open the transmit door. 2. take a look at the condition and placement of rollers and sensor actuators.3. Using a lintless rag and 99% Isoprpynol, clean the rollers thoroughly. 4. Clean the scanner glass and also the white strip on the transmit door opposite the glass. 5. Do not forget to examine the final roller (paper out roller) This may be damaged or the gear or even the plastic clips that hold this down may be broken. finally make sure that the transmit door can be snapped shut properly.

My fax is crushing my papers!!! Whay????

if it is creasing and pressing the page, the fixing assembly, the heater unit and it surrounding parts need to be replaced.

Also check carefully from all areas to see if a piece of paper of any size is stuck in the paper path ( it should be visible if you open the correct doors and or covers. Often, if it is this problem that I describe, I saw it on the job today, a replacement fixing assy and its lower roller and plastic housing (all as 1 unit) fixed the problem as it has done on nearly every occasion. The fixing film and lower pressure roller do not have even pressure across the lower rollers surface. This is due to wear and tear and heat hardening some types of rollers occasionally, as well as heat slightly warping the fixing assy frame and causing the pressure or feed problem that way.

Hope this helps, oh yeah call for a technician as part are 99% likely to be required. Use canon tecnicians if possible, the parts will be genuine canon parts.
