SOLUTION:

  1. Ensure that you have a two contact phone cable connected to line 1 socket of the printer and that the other end of the cable is connected to the phone jack in the wall.
  2. Perform a partial reset on the printer. To do this first remove the power supply from the back of the printer. With the power off press and hold the # and 3 keys.
  3. Plug the power back into the printer, keep holding the # and 3 keys till you see “ Partial Reset ” displayed on the printer screen.
  4. If this does not resolve the issue contact HP

Here is the correct procedure to receive a fax automatically;

Make sure the printer is on and is connected to a working phone line.

Make sure that Auto Answer is on.

To check if Auto Answer is on:

From the printer control panel press the wrench sign.

Press the arrow buttons until Fax Setup appears, .

Press the arrow buttons until Ringing and Answering appears, and then press

OK to save the setting.

Press OK again.

Check to see if Auto Answer is set to On.

If Auto Answer is not set to on, press the arrow buttons until On appears, and then

press to save the setting.

Set the number of times the telephone rings before the printer automatically

receives faxes:

Press the arrow buttons until Pick-up On appears, and then press OK .

Press the arrow buttons until the setting that you want appears, and then press to

save the setting.

When the number of rings you set is detected, the printer automatically receives

the incoming fax.

This should solve your problem.

I can send fax but cant recieve fax

You have not told us which model fax you have but most machines have a receive mode selection. Your machine may be set to 'manual' receive. It will only receive if you pick up the phone and hit the start buton. The phone has to be connected to the machine. Look on your machine for the receive button. It may be marked as 'auto receive' and 'manual receive'. Select 'auto' so the machine will answer. It may be marked as 'fax mode' and 'tel mode' if so select 'fax mode''. It may also have a selection 'ans mode' you don't want this as it assumes that you have an answer phone connected to your machine and it waits until the machine answers before it detects incoming fax. Good Luck
