It's possible that the printhead has burned out and in the process it's blown the printer in the process.

You can try one trick that has worked for me in the past but it's by no means guaranteed.

IMPORTANT:
- Disconnect the printer from the mains/power socket!
- Remove the cartridges and printhead

Work out how to remove the left panel (left when looking at front) and then identify the power pack which is like a module that plugs into the printer.

Into this power pack goes one or two small internal connectors which you should disconnect, wait 10 seconds and then reconnect.

Push the power module back into position if you've had to release it, and then try plugging the printer back in to the mains/power-socket and try turning the printer on.

If it DOES comes back online, you should get a brand new printhead ASAP.
IMPORTANT: DO NOT use your old printhead as it will blow the printer or any other printer that it is installed in.

If it doesn't come back on then it's toast and it's time to look for a new printer.

I suspect you will find the printer is dead but if it does come back online you'll have dodged a bullet that took my MP750 and iP4000 to printer heaven. The fix above worked for a couple of iP4200's and an MP500 so it could still be ok.

Good luck.

Your Canon MP780 will have the ink levels displayed on the screen.

Also, while printing on the Canon printers you would usually get a window on the screen showing you the level of ink in the printer.

And here is a link on how to replace the ink cartridges on your printer http://support-au.canon.com.au/contents/AU/EN/8000117601.html

Canon Pixma MP780. Recently my color ink

Have you checked to see if the jet area on the bottom of the ink cartridge has a blackish sludge on them? It might be that the area that the print cartridges are purged/cleaned to one side of the printer (sometimes called a service station, or spitoon) has built up excess ink that has gotten thick and high enough that as the carriage goes over that area the bottom of the cartridge gets polluted with the blackish sludge. It will work slightly into the jets where the ink comes out and cause discoloration, even after you change the color cartridge. Open the unit to look inside with a flashlight for build ups and clean it (if you find some) with disposable things like cotton swabs, coffee stirrers, whatever you have that wont damage anything inside. Another cause could be mixing of the cyan and magenta and yellow somehow inside making a dark color representing black - but replacing the cartridge would cure it immediately.

My Canon pixma MP780 is flashing a message that the waste ink is full. What does this mean and how can I fix it?

Have to reset the waste ink counter & replace with new WASTE INK ABSORBER KIT. Only service centre can do the service job.

My Pixma MP780 is suddenly printing VERY slow...

The speed of the printer could have a lot to do with the settings for photo quality. If you've cleaned it out completely and the settings for your quality still make no difference in the speed, you've damaged hardware that will have to be replaced... replacing the entire printer is usually the best option at that point.
