Does your laptop? It sounds as if it's a heatng problem. Also, when it ishuts down, does it take sme time before you can turn it back on? If not, it may be a virus issue,

Your laptop is getting overheated . Check there is proper vent for fan . Also ensure the heatsink is proper . Remove the battery and check the working of laptop is proper with AC plug .
If it is proper then you need to change the battery .

Sony vaio pcg-5k2l laptop boots, shows windows is updating software, then shuts down, then repeats the cycle

Let it go until it stops on its own, sometimes windows updates restart the computer. If after say about 20min or there is obviously no progress restart your computer. As it boots up press F5 key to enter start up options screen. Enter in safe mode and run system restore and restore to a previous backup.

Lately, my laptop (Winbook) has been overheating and shutting down. Any ideas?

3 possible causes for this:
  1. Bad Power Supply....heating up and shutting down
  2. Bad Motherboard...heats up and freezes
  3. Bad Heatsink/processor....fan/heatsink no longer keeping processor cool enough to operate shutting your machine down
If when the laptop overheats, it just shuts down and doesn't freeze or lock up, it's most likely the Power Supply. If it just freezes/locks up, its much more likely that the problem lies with the motherboard. Hope this helps with your laptop problem. Best of luck.

Shut down problem

somthing is running in the background ... maybe spyware ... maybe just some application ... try shutting everything off manually in ur taskbar and then shutting down ..
or Else You can also right click the task bar and select "task manager" from there go to "user" and above that you find the shut down selection in one of the menus.
