RIM Freedom Bluetooth® Folding Keyboard for BlackBerry

RIM Blackerry or iPAQ and GPRS phone/jacket

By pawa - usenet poster

I'm a corporate user faced with a dilemma. GSM dial-up is not sufficient for
some executive users who need e-mails sent to them and need to receive
messages in a 'push' fashion rather than having to 'pull' them down via a
slow connection. GPRS has the promise of an always-on connection, providing
the cell is not saturated. The RIM Blackberry uses BT GPRS and is an ideal
device for receiving 'push' e-mails. (I use the analogy of text messages on
a GSM phone, but these are full e-mails plus attachments). The battery life
on the Blackberry is excellent, but the device is otherwise quite limited.
Has anyone any experience of using an iPAQ with a cable connected GPRS
enabled phone (ruling out Bluetooth for now) ? And if so, what is the
battery overhead. Compaq are about to release the GPRS jacket for the iPAQ
in the UK, but even this only has limited extra battery capacity...
Any thoughts?

Same thing for me. But i've made my decision.
I bought an ipaq 3850 (couldn't wait but i would suggest the 3870 with
bluetooth built in) and will get the Bluetooth CF-Sleeve for it. The i
am going to use my ipaq via bluetooth with the new nokia 6310
GPRS/Bluetooth handy (Ericsson T39 will work too).

this way i can use my ipaq in my hands will phoning. also i have an
car adapter for nokia already in use, so this scenaria makes sense.
Also i can use my phone single and independend from the ipaq.

Just my thougts...

The Blackberry devices have 3rd party applications that allow viewing basic
file types such as Word, Excel, RTF, HTML and ASCII. Try Handango.com The
Balckberry 957 devices is excellent lasting about a week with out a battery
charge, longer if you program them to go into power saver mode at night.

If they just made a PCMCIA card that would install in to an IPAQ and provide
the secure E-Mail and calendar syn from Blackberry/RIM directly into Pockect
Outlook it would be excellent
