Need new hard drive. I just had the same thing happen with 2 XP units. One worked fine a few months back Iput it aside because got a new laptop. The went to play some older games on the Xpand nothing No Boot Device detected. Ok Re install windows right? that worked fine as long as the disk was in but once I tried without the disk same issue. Somehow the Harddrive became corrupted. For me no big deal Was a secondhand unit (XP) and I had a newer win 8 laptop to use but still.Found another harddrive popped it in just recently and works like a charm without any issues so far (knock on wood).

My inspiron 531 says no boot device available

Computer is not configured to boot from your hard disk drive (SATA 0),
you need to go into the BIOS (set-up) menu and make that drive the fisrt boot device.

I formatted the harddrive of a Dell Inspirion 530. It says BOOTMGR missing on the main screen so I put in the VISTA OS disc and it won't read it, and acts like it's not even in the computer.

Hi, go to the above dell website and go to page 192.
It sounds like to me you need to change the boot order in your bios. Follow this instructions and put your cd/dvd drive at the top of the list, then it should run the vista install disk.
Hope this helps

I have a Dell desktop running Windows Vista. I cannot boot up to Windows. I have a black screen with cursor error message saying: boot device available, ta 0 installed, ta 1 installed, ta 2 none, ta 3...

That message says that the hard disk was found but nothing on it can be used - Vista is completely corrupted. You will have to reinstall it using the recovery cd that came with it when you bought it.
