Don't know what machine you have but whatever pushes the switch down when you shut the lid
is not pushing it down for some reason. Something may be broken or the switch may be loose or out of place. If you push it down and it works it is not the timer. Do not bypass the switch I know of
children puting their hand in it when running and tearing their hands up . Fix it right and have no problems. You may need a new switch or the plastic that pushes it down.

Whirlpool washer won't wash or spin or dump water

usually a broken lid switch if it fills with water and then nothing, set the timer on spin and pull out the timer, open the lid and stick a screw driver into the hole where the plastic acuator on the lid goes into the hole and push down easily and see if washer will run this is where the lid switch is and it's only a safety switch so when the lid is open the washer won't run,if not push up and down on the switch and listen for a clicking sound,no click switch is bad part number 285671,watch video

Washing machine will not drain water out or spin

set the timer on spin, open the lid and with a screw driver stick it into the hole that the strike on the lid closes down into, see if it spins and drains,if it doesn't lift the screw driver up and push it down into the hole,if you don't hear any clicking at all the switch is bad or if it does start with the screw driver the lid switch also has to be changed out.check this site out, also give the parts store the model number off of your washer to get the correct lid switch or next time send the model number and i can look up the part for you.good luck and let me know how you make out.

It won't spin or drain. :-(

check the lid switch first - depending on the brand - some machines won't spin or drain if it thinks the lid is open. open the lid and take a small screw driver driver, press up and down on the switch. you should be able to hear it click. if it is not clicking then the lid switch is probaly bad.

some machines will drain with the lid open but not spin. if this is the case with your machine you could have other problems such as timer or motor.

Rinse problem

Sounds like a timer issue. Try this, Yes it sometimes works. Spin the timer knob vigorously six to ten complete turns. It may be that the contacts are stuck together and this frequently frees them. Timers are expensive, so this is worth a try. Good luck.

I think the issue might be the lid switch, but not too sure. The washing machine will fill with water and agitaite but then it stops and the water does not drain or go to spinning cycle mode. I have to...

If you put hanger in hole and push down then it works it is the lid switch. To remove take top off to get to it. From the front take a putty knife and push on each side about an inch from the side to release the clips that hold the top down. Putty knife between the top & the cabinet. Lift up and you can get to the switch. Also it could be the plastic piece that pushes the switch down is broken off and not long enought to push the switch down.

Washer agitates, drains OK, but spin doesn't start

Timer is defective. Your unit has a netural drain. When finished agitating, the shuts down and then starts up reversing to drain and spin. On the initial reverse start, the water drains without the transmission spinning. After a timed period 3-4 minutes, the timer is supposed to pause, stopping the motor for a few seconds. When the motor stops again, the transmission shift to the spin cycle and when the timer resumes power tothe motor it should spin. You are doing the same thing when you lift the lid...stopping the timer and then the tranny shifts and when you set the lid down, the washer spins. Replace the timer.......

Will not drain or spin

Unless you jarred the machine it's the timer. You can check this by bypassing the lid switch and seeing if it will cycle.
