Where is the heat sensor on a goodman furnace

Modern furnaces have more than 1 sensor. And it depends on how it is installed on some models. Can you be specific as to why you need to know this?

  • Gregg Rene May 11, 2010

    Can you clarify please?

Most furnaces have what is called "rollover" thermistors, in case the exchanger or the flue becomes plugged and the flame rolls over (or out) of the flamebox. The thermistor is designed to open thus cut off power to the gas valve which shuts off gas flow so you don't have a fire.

Most furnaces themselves do not sense heat, they only generate it until a control tells them to stop - the control is the thermostat.

Thermostats are usually located remotely to the furnace... so I need to know which you speak of?

Heat sensor....Or a flame sensor. Flame sensor is connected to a "single" wire under the buners usually found on the left side. Heat sensors (or flame rollout switches) are found surrounding the burner box. The most common bad one will be located just above the burners. it "should" have a small reset button in the middle just between the two wires. If the furnace does light even for a short time the rollout switch is not bad.

What's your problem? goodman furnace lights, burns 10 secs goes out

Hello, sounds like you have a dirty flame sensor. This is a metal rod on the oppositenside of the hot surface ignitor. turn off power to the furnace and remove the flame sensor, then use steel wool and clean the flame sensor and reinstall. Next turn back power to Furnace.

How do you change the filter on model# GMP075-3?

When looking at the front of the furnace, toward the top, turn the two black tabs so they are vertical, then pull it forward. This will take off the top panel. Now pull the bottom panel up, then toward you. You can now see and change the filter.

My circuirt board has a rapid flashigh trouble light, and the blower does not shut off. What seems to be the problem?

with just the information you have provided, i would guess you have a rollout sensor somewhere that has been tripped. there are usually a push button reset on the goodman models. this usually happens when you have flame outside the heat exchanger and is not a good thing. i have seen some goodmans where the wiring for the safety sensors is melted from the flame rolling out due to a crack in the heat exchanger. it this is the case, you need to replace the heat exchanger or consider getting a new furnace. the safety wiring on most goodmans is usually purple. trace all the purlple wiring and see if some of it is melted or if any of the push button switches has tripped. on a high efficiency model, there will be several wires and rollout switches located along the top of the burner box above the burners.
good luck. by the way, anytime a safety has been tripped, the fan will default to the on postion as a precaution in case the furnace has got too hot. that may explain the fan running all the time.

Goodman furnace

you should not need the owners manual. most likely you will find a chart listing the diagnostic codes on the inside of the door to the blower compartment. diagnostics are printed next to the wiring schematic. the most common problem on this style furnace is just a dirty flame sensor. a small piece of fine grit sandpaper and a 1/4" nutdriver is needed. the sensor is located in front of the burner on either the far left or right. be carefull....(do not remove the hot surface ignitor that has two wires). you want the part that has only one wire connected to the sensor under the buner. pull it out and sand the dirt off of the metal rod. reinstall and enjoy your heat

No heat, trouble shooting light has continious flash.

Try replacing the filter. Low air flow will allow the furnace to overheat. Sounds like a simple answer. Wish I had tried it before buying a flame sensor and controller. Live and learn I guess.
