Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

The water line on our refrigerator runs very slowly with a thin stream. The refrigerator is only 3 years old and the filter was recently changed, but did not help the problem.

There is very often another gauze filter in the plastic fitting which connects to your main water supply tap. This is to prevent larger particles from getting into the system but very often clogs up. Check it out.

I did our usual 6 month replacement of the PureSource2 filter in our fridge, but during the 3 minute of running the water, the water stopped.

hello rodger;

my name is peter. i am a retired field service refrigeration technician.

you may have gotten a bad water filter. once, as a service technician we received a supply of bad water filters. all of us technicians have to return to our service calls and replace the water filters.

what had happened is the granules in the filter fell apart and plugged up everything, including the water solenoid valve filter screen.

remove the water filter and see if you can flush your system out by running your water dispenser with out the filter.

Good morning, Dear Professional, It does not have

Morning David,

More likely than not a 12 year old refrig. is not going to have a built in filter, they only have been in fairly recent refrigs. under say 7 years old.
NOw the probable trouble with the icemaker is in this case going to be poor water pressure into the refrig. You can disconnect the water line from the house plumbing on the back of the ref. and check for pressure of incoming water, if it just trickles thats the problem and nothing wrong with the refrigerator, if the pressure is good the water valve the incoming water connects to needs to be replaced,
IF water enters slowly the most likely trouble is the supply usesa clamp type valve that clamps over a cold water pipe,if that is the case that peircing type clamp on valve needs to be replaced.

I have a Whirlpool refrigerator model ED2SHAXMB10 with water and ice in the freezer door. It is about 6 years old and has worked fine until recently the water flow has become slow. It starts out fast for...

There is most likely a crimp in the line or some other blockage.
Remove the toe kick plate across the bottom front of the refrigerator.
You will see the water line to the door. The pkastic line is about 3/8 inch in size.
There is a plastic coupling that needs to be disconnected.
Have a glass handy and have someone push the water button while you catch the water.
If you get a good stream of water under the refrigerator, the restriction is in the door tubing.
If you do not get good flow, the water valve could be disconnected in the rear and run the water button again.
Ifr you then get good flow the restriction is in the tubing inside the fresh food side.
If you get poor flow at the valve, the valve is bad.

Hi,
Check for clogged output valve. Second the filter candles require an annual change as they also get clogged from filtering water.

Thanks for using fixya

Water is really slow

it was good before you changed that first filter? if so you probably got something in the line. from removing filter like part of oring or something and its now in your line from filter. try turning water off and break open water line before filter and see how well it poors there into a bucket or something and work your way down to the dispenser.

Water dispenser and no ice

Hard Water! I would say the filter and or water lines are getting full of a lime build up. Check the filter and then turn off the water supply and undo the water feed line to the frig to see if it has blockage.

Water dispenser is just a trickle

the biggest culprit for slow water dispensing aside from the filter is the water supply its self. check to make sure the water line isnt kinked behind the refrig, if thats ok then disconnect the water line from the refrig and run water into a bucket and observe your water flow. good water pressure would basicly fill a 2 gallon bucket in less than a minute. much less than that can cause problems. hope that helps peyton

Water/ice dispenser not working

Depending on the age of your house, large chunks of minerals may have dislodged in the water piping system, and is flooding the filter cartridge with trash. I had this happen recently on a 15 year old house that water stopped flowing in 4 cold water faucets of the bathroom.

Try this -

1) Roll the fridge out from the wall
2) Turn the water off at the wall.
3) Disconnect the water line from the back of the fridge
4) Get a bucket and stick the line into the bucket.
5) Slowly open the valve and see if water comes out. If it does, let it run for 20-30 secs at a decent flow, then turn off. If not water comes out, then you have a different problem. The cause may be the same, but it's not the refrigerator.

If water does come out, check the bucket to see if there are chunks of mineral buildup in the bottom, or floating in the water.

If there are minerals, then again, let the line run until the water runs clear. Open the valve as full open as you can to increase the water velocities and flush the chunks. Also, if no water comes through the tube, there may be trash in the valve itself, and you will likely need to call a plumber to repair unless your handy. I can describe how to repair, but that is another subject.

If everything flushes clear and you have flow, then get yourself a new filter, and try again. If there was mineral buildup, it is possible that some got through the filter and has built up inside the refrigerator water tubing. That again is another issue that I can help you with.
