Printer started printing extrmemly slow even with simple black & white documents. I don't think I touched anything, just seemed to happen on its own. I read somewhere to adjust quality to lower which i did and still no improvement

here's a solution i came across when dealing with the same problem. apparently the printer expects all of the cartridges to be full and has a sensor to make sure they are even when only printing black. hope this helps!
Printing with only black and white as the primary color would be easy.
First, we would need to know what software are you using for printing. It can be a black and white picture and/or just a simple word document. Usually, when you print, there would the "Printer Options" first. Once there, you would have options to change it to your liking.

No, it will not. I have this printer and last week I ran out of cyan. Even though i only wanted to print black and white documents the printer would not print anything until I replaced the cyan cartridge.
Solution 2: The purge cap (the white sliding mechanism that the print head parks to when it's not in use) may be not lubricated well enough .
Lubricate the sliders with some white grease (don't get it on the small wipers or the black caps); this repair probably require to remove the right panel off of the printer to gain access to the purge mechanism.
All best: Pineworks
go into your driver and change your color preferences to black and white. that way when you want to print color you actually have to tell it to do so. which will save your color ink, and will print much faster. full color printing of a black and white document uses all ink colors except black to make what is called process black.
