Ok, so your trying to transfer the videos from your camcorder to your pc running windows vista? Correct?

Do you want to play them in the camcorder and see them on your pc, or do you want to move the entire video at one time, then watch it on your pc? Let me know

Ok, this is one way to do it. You can play a tape in your camcorder and with a memory stick in the camcorder, and you can record you video to the memory stick. Your manual shows you how to do this on page 95. If you don't have the manual, you can download it here http://www.nodevice.com/user_manual/sony/home_video/dcr-pc108e.html

All you have to do then is get a windows vista compatible card reader and move it from the stick to the computer.
Note: After it's in the computer, you may need an MPEG codec to play it, it depends on what program your going to use.

Good luck,

Rob

I cannot seem to upload video from my sony handycam model DCR-HC36. My home operating system is Windows Vista basic 32 bit. I've tried downloading things but it never seems to locate the needed...

You should not need additional drivers if you have Windows Movie Maker on your machine, it's standard kit for Vista.
Connect with a firewire cable and open WMM and capture from the tape. Firewire is also known as iLink or IEEE1394a.

Cant instal drivers

usb streaming function is not readily supported by windows vista. this would depend on the software that came supplied with the camcorder. unfortunately, the software being incompatible and the funtion (usb streaming) not supported by driver included in the supplied cd-rom, usb connection will not work (although you can use it for still picture transfer). for tape transfer you would need to go another route which is ieee1394 (ilink or firewire) connection. it should be a plug-and-play connection. your computer should support and have a working ieee1394 (ilink or firewire) card installed. a compatible ilink cable for both devices and a video capturing software like windows moviemaker and having all the needed hardware and software then your good to go. hope this helps.thanks:)

Video transfer

If you're using a Windows Vista Operating System it'snot possible to transfer the videos from the Camcorder to the Computer using the USB connection. The videos from the tape camcorders cannot be transferred to Windows Vista Operating System as there is no USB Streaming ooption available on the Windows Vista Operating System. The Camcorder uses the USB Streaming function to transfer the videos to the Computer. You may wish to purchase a i.LINK/Firewire cable to connect the Camcorder to the Computer in order to transfer the videos from the Camcorder to the Computer.
or
There is an update for driver on the Sony website to transfer the videos from the Camcorder to the Computer using the USB cable.
http://support.sony-europe.com/dime/downloads/downloads.aspx?site=odw_en_GB&m=DCR-HC42E&f=usbdrven_vista

You may also try installing the driver update for the Camcorder. The i.LINK cable gives a better video transfer qulaity than the USB transfer. The i.LINK cable used to connect the Camcorder to the computer depends on the number of pins available on the i.LINK/FIREWIRE port on the Computer. The i.LINK port on the Computer is a D shaped port which is labelled as i, DV, IEEE1394 and Firewire.

Problem with compatibilty between windows vista

since you're using vista you can connect camcorder to pc uding ilink or firewire cable. usb conection would not work. no dirvers or sofwtare needed, you can use windows movie maker to capture videos. check your computer for any ilink port. it is a different connection from usb. go to www.sonystyle.com and type this model number, vmcil4615, for you to have an idea what firewire cable looks like.
