I would try the automotive paint store, as they carry parts here in Oregon. Rick

What is happening to my Dewalt DW421 spinning fast, but no random orbiting motion.

Probably need to replace bearing 6202. I took mine apart, dissambled the retainer and used PB Blaster on the bearing. It seems to be a short term fix. At least it's not operating at hyper speed anymore. Long term, I probably need to replace the bearing and maybe a new lower retainer if I can't press the bearing out.

Porter cable model 333 will not orbit and spins at a very high speed. I do not have a manual.

there is a belt from the motor to the pad that has apparently broken. Go to dewaltservicenet.com and you can download both the parts breakdown and the operators manual. If I have helped you would you please vote accordingly and thank you

Hi, my BO5010 spins like a grinder if it is not held tightly to the workpiece, can it be fixed? Thanks, Ope.

Just under the sandpaper pad is a bearing that allows the pad to work as an orbital, that is it can turn freely, independently of the armature. If enough sawdust builds up around or inside this bearing the pad will spin like you describe and this is a fairly common problem with orbital sanders. You need Makita part number 211236-8 or a bearing #6002LL. It's fairly easy to replace; remove the screw in the center of the pad and remove it. Depending on which is tighter, the bearing will either be in the back of the pad or it will stay on the armature. Pry it off/out of the sander. Reassemble everything with the new bearing and you'll be back in business.

How do you remove the bearing on the armature?

usually you would need a bearing puller or a bearing splitter to remove bearings, give me the exact brand and model number and I will find a breakdown for the tool and let you know more if needed.

Cant figure out how to install the sanding disc's

This info may help;

Features: DeWalt D26451K 5" Random Orbit Sander Kit
  • 3.0 Amp motor operates at 12,000 opm providing ideal sanding speed for smooth finish
  • Textured anti-slip top & body grip provides ultimate comfort and control during prolonged use
  • Controlled Finishing System maintains pad speed and minimizes gouging during start up
  • Dust-sealed switch prevents contamination
  • Sealed 100 percent ball-bearing construction provides longer life
  • High capacity dust bag with built in vacuum adapter provides maximum dust collection with or without vacuum
  • Dual-plane counter-balanced fan reduces user fatigue
  • Accepts 5", 8-hole hook & loop paper allows sanding discs to be switched back and forth quickly and easily
  • The sanding discs mate to the sander plate similar to Velcro, and this particular sander uses a 5" disc with 8 holes in it. Can be purchased in Home Depot, Lowes, etc....
Hope this helps!

Porter Cable Random Orbital Sander rotates but does not "orbit"

Just solved my problem with Porter Cable 333 orbital sander which just groaned. I thought the worst. I carefully took it apart on the garage floor and immediately suspected it needed lubrication as the motor turned hard. I used my flexible long plastic tube lubrication and put some on the bottom bearing shaft the best I could. I worked it around and around. I began to feel it turning easier. I applied more oil and kept moving and it became completely free. I put a drop on the top bearing even though it was loose. I put it all back together and it works like new. Lesson: do not look for the worst when a tool quits. Suspect the culprit to be lack of lubrication!!!

Need help disassembling Porter Cable random orbit sander

Go to Dewaltservicenet.com and in the center of the page under needing parts type in your tool model number it will take you to another page and scroll down to the type 1 or 2 and click on it. It will bring up an exploded view of this tool. Why do you think that you need brushes? usually I have to replace the bearings and the brushes are pretty durable. Let me know if I can help further

Makita 5010 will not work in random orbital mode

It sounds like the bearing in thee bottom plate is seizing. If you turn the pad by hand does the motor turn. It should be smooth. I would look at that. The bearing number for Makita is 211236-8 or if you can get a generic bearing it is 6002DDW. Let me know
