Question about Reddy Heater-30-55,000 BTU Variable

1 Answer

The heater runs for approx. 7-10 minutes then shuts down

The nozzle is clear/new. I flushed and drained tank several times.

My best guess is the phot cell or ignition control PC board.

Very rarely it's the circut board.most likely it will be the photo cell.does you photo cell have one blue wire and one white wire????or is it two blue wires, they are two differant photo cells.if it's two blue wires you nee to check the air pressure.it's very important.if the pressure is wrong it will not work properly.you need a gauge to check it.

How do i change the radiator fluid?

Most radiators have a drain plug on the bottom tank the engine block also has a drain plug . Remove the radiator cap ,open both drains ,let all the coolant run out, if there is no radiator plug remove the lower hose , remove the heater demister hoses, with the heater control on hot flush out all the coolant from the heater radiator. with a garden hose, till the water runs clean, tighten the radiator plug or re fit the hose, put a garden hose into the radiator and flush out till the water at the block plug runs clean ,refit the heater hoses, refit the block plug, fill the radiator from the hose leave the cap off , If it has a overflow tank clean and flush it. start and run engine for 5 minutes top up radiator if needed . stop engine and drain out all water. most important that all old coolant is drained out, only buy the best coolant you can . If you make up your own use only distilled water. keep some to top up with never mix with another brand. Fill radiator with coolant top up over flow tank, run engine top up coolant as needed, refit radiator cap run for another 10 minutes check for leaks,

Egg smell from hot water

You either have water with a high sulfur content or need to flush your heater. you should flush your heater every year anyway. you can turn off the water and electric to the heater. and totally drain the tank when it is totally drained add more water and drain some more. then refill the tank and run a hot water faucet the tub is best to eliminate any air in the system then turn the electric back on this should solve the problem if it does not you probably have sulfur in the water and would need water treatment or filters to help

Black slim in hot water

SOUND LIKE YOU NEED TO DRAIN AND FLUSH YOUR WATER HEATER TANK. THERE IS A HOSE BIB AT THE BOTTOM OF THE TANK. RUN A HOSE FROM IT TO A DRAIN OR OUTSIDE. SHUT OFF THE COLD WATER INLET VALVE AND OPEN THE HOSE BIB. OPEN HOT FIXTURES IN THE HOUSE.CHECK THE DRAINING WATER FOR CLARITY. IF CLEAR OPEN THE INLET VALVE AND LET IT FLUSH(YOU MAY GET MORE DISCOLORED WATER, RUN UNTIL CLEAR). SHUT HOT WATER FIXTURES, CLOSE THE HOSE BIB AND LET TANK REFILL.

Our hot water will last for about 5- 10 minutes then turn luke warm. I have replaced both elements but problem remains . Do you hink it is the thermostat ? thanks chazz

If you have not done so already then turn thermostats up to 140 degrees. You may also try to drain and flush tank to clean out any mineral deposits that could be hurting your effiency. To do this shut off electrical power to heater then connect garden hose to drain valve on the bottom of tank. Run hose to floor drain or other safe area and open drain valve. If it drains good with the water on then let it flush for a couple of mins. then shut incoming water supply off. Let tank drain as far as it will. You may need to open a faucet on the hot side of nearby fixture to break vacumn.
Drain it completly then close drain valve and hot side of faucet.Turn water supply back on and let tank refill. Do this 2-3 times to get inside of tank as clean as possible. Hope this helps you and thanks. P.S. You may need to replace thermostat also.

R40 heater when plugged in, motor starts, ignitor glows red hot, and can see fuel being atomized out of nozzle, but does not fire up, and shuts down after approx,. 5 sec. run time

I want you to open the fuel cap up and tilt the heater towards you, and what you are looking for is water in the fuel. These types of heaters will build condensation in the fuel tanks while in storage. Drain your tank in to a clean five gallon bucket, fuel floats on top of the water. Now you can siphon off the fuel just be careful not to siphon to much. Also dry the tank inside as best you can before the fuel is put back in the tank. If this does not take care of the problem it could also be dirty fuel nozzle, use compressed air and blow thru the nozzle for a quick cleaning, make sure to clean the screen out that sits behind the nozzle.

My water heater won't circulate water. i think it is clogged with calcium

One thing you might try is to shut off power or turn gas valve to pilot,as you didn't say if it was gas or electric. Hook up garden hose to drain valve and run hose to floor drain or sump basin. Shut off water supply valve to heater. Open drain valve and if you get a decent flow then let it drain tank about half way. If flow rate drops drastically then open hot side on faucet nearby to break vacumn. When you think tank is about halfway drained then shut off faucet if you opened one and close drain valve. Turn water supply valve back on and let tank refill. When it is full leave supply valve on and open drain valve and let water flush thru system for several mins. Close drain valve and run water on both hot and cold side of faucets fartherest away from heater as possible. Close this faucet
Turn tharmostat up as high as it will go and let heater run till it shuts off then return thermostat to original setting. Go through the drain and flush procedure a couple more times and this shold help break mineral deposits loose and flush them out. This should make for more efficeint operation and help prolong the tank life. Hope this helps you. Have a good new year and thank you.

How do clean a water heater tank

Hello,
That process can be very difficult if you have not done it in a long time or have never done it.
Hopefully your plumber installed a shut off valve on the cold water pipe you will need this.
Also make sure you have a new relief valve handy, you will probably need that also.
First turn off the cold water to the haot water heater and also shutoff the gas ore electric to the heater.
Then hookup a hose tot he drain at the bottom of the tank. Open the valve and relieve the pressure. The you will have to lift the handle on the relief valve to allow air to go in to the tank so the water will go out.
When the tank is empty, you then need to alternately run cold waterinto the tank and then drain it out until you get only clear water out of the tank each time you do this. You do not have to run a lot of water in at a time, A half minute shot each time will do the trick.
When the water runs clear when draining the tank is clean.
Close all valves and change the reief valve, because it probably will not seal again.
If **** plugs up the drain valve, you may have to take off the hose and use a wire to clear it or even repalce the drain valve.

This is a slow and long process to do it right.

Torpedo Reedy heater 150,000 BTU starts & fires but after 2-3 minutes of heating , it shuts down, after it is off for about 3 minutes it will start & fires but then shuts down , each time it shuts...

There is a flame sensor inside the burner unit. The sensor is like a photo cell that must see the light of the flame or it will tell the burner control to stop the power. You need to see if there is a soot film on the lense of the sensor and make sure the sensor is aimed straight. If the sensor is clean and aimed straight (and the problem persists) then there may be a clogged nozzle that is giving a poor flame and the sensor does not see a good flame therefore shuts down the unit. If the nozzle is at fault, then you for sure need to replace the oil filter. New nozzles are $4-8 and the size & spray angle is stamped on the nozzle. If there is still a problem, then you need to see if the pump is giving approx. 100psi pressure, then finally (the last step) would be to replace the burner control $60. Goodluck< Macgivor

Proper method on coolant system flush

Best way is to buy a flush kit. It is an adaptor that you put in your heater hose and can hook up a garden hose to. You cut the hose and put this device permanently in the line. Remove the thermostat, don't put the new gasket in there yet just put the outlet pipe back on and bolt it down. Run the car when cold with your hose running for about 10 minutes with the radiator drain valve open on the bottom of your radiator and the cap loose, water should come out of the drain valve and the radiator cap. This will flush your engine adequately, why waste money on distilled water, save that for topping off your battery. Turn off your engine continue to allow water from your hose to flow as long as you are seeing any thing other than clear water flow until it flows clear. Turn off the hose, put the cap on the flush port you installed. the port stays under your hood and allows you to flush your engine as needed. Let the water drain through the drain valve. Put in a new thermostat, with a gasket this time. Refill with water and antifreeze as directed in your manual. You should be good to go.
