Sounds to me like a faulty Blu-ray drive.  More than likely you will have to replace the drive.  I am not to sure if Sony will cover it even if it is under warranty.  It is best to call their tech support.

It's your blu-ray drive. You've got the number one problem facing PS3 owners.

It's a Sony defect.

Check out my guide here:

    It's a Sony
defect with the blu-ray lasers. They only last 1-3 years with average
use. If your PS3 is less than a year old and you still have the
original receipt Sony will repair the problem for free. Otherwise
they're going to charge you $150 for the repair. You can reach them at:
    1-800-345-SONY

Unless you have a technical background in
electronics there's nothing I would suggest doing. A firmware update
and or CD /DVD cleaner disk will do nothing for your problem. I've
fixed more than 100 PS3's with this exact problem so I know exactly
    what I'm talking about.

I would suggest getting a disc cleaning kit, there might be some dust
inside there and could be causing the laser to not work properly. I'd
also check your NHL 09 disc and any other discs for that matter for any
scratches or marks because sometimes when a disc reader plays up it can
mark your discs. Good luck with it all and I hope it gets sorted soon!

Try reformatting the system. If that dosn;t work your drive is done

Hook it back up to with the component cables and the press the power
button on the PS3 and hold it for about 5 sec, it should beep then
restart, this will reset the video settings and should detect the new
    hook up.

The PS3's Ethernet port works without any setup, aside from maybe popping in an IP address if you need to. Wireless
is a different issue, however. WiFi isn't automatically detected, and while you can go and manually add a wireless adapter,
the OS doesn't try to help and choose which brand it is. So if you
aren't all that savvy, it's going to end up a guessing game.

That means that the lens pickup is not reading the cd.
Often this happens because of dirty lens.

Try first using a dvd lens cleaner , like the ones here.

If that does not work contact Sony calling the numbel listed on the PS3 user manual.

If the game has marks on it, then the CD can be dirty.

Try cleaning the game CD surface under tap water (yes tap water, CD is plastic, just be careful that cd has no paper sticker cover).

After cleaning the CD, dry carefully with a soft cloth, taking care not to let residual water on CD.

Let us know how it goes.

Please hook PS3 to Broadband Internet connection (eathernet port at rear) and let it update firmware from Sony PS3 website automatically and then check.
Still no joy, optical block seems in problem and best way is to call Sony Support for fix.

  • Ekse Mar 03, 2009

Ok the problem is not with lense. This seems to be a problem with your internet connection. For start. Try pluging the ps3 directly to your dsl modem. and see if that helps.

Ps3 says dnla problem and won't play any thing what do i do

Hi ericparvin,

Since you haven't specify what it is you are trying to do or play, I'm assuming from the error that you are getting, maybe you are trying to stream your media to your PS3. if that is the case, reboot your PC or source system then reboot your PS3 console as well.

Since PS3 has playback limitations, what I usually recommend is the PS3 Media Server, you can get it here:

code.google.com/p/ps3mediaserver/

just download the latest version then install it on your PC, run it. it will automatically search for the PS3 console on the network, once found. go to the PS3 XMB and look for PS3 Media Server Icon. it will even encode mkv files but you need a beef up system.

Hope that helps, if you still have problems post here.

Regards,
Ragoney

Streaming videos over the LAN to PS3

I stream without any problems using the PS3 Media Server, free bit of software that you can d/load and install on your laptop (just google it, i found it within seconds).

Really simple to use, just add the folder where your videos are then you can access via the PS3 dashboard

Ps3 found media server(linkstation) but cannot see any of the video files? can see video files thru windows xp. how do i get ps3 to see the video files?

there is no one blanket answer to this problem that could have many causes. It could be the DLNA server on the linkstation, it could be the version of the firmware on the PS3 or it could be the files that you have on the linkstation, BUT this link on the sony forum touches on some of these and offers some solutions http://boardsus.playstation.com/t5/PlayStation-3-Media/My-Buffalo-LinkStation-experience-so-far/m-p/29300220 However most people seem to install something called twonky server, which i am planning to do...... hope this gets you started. My ps3 is "searching for media servers" and not letting me play any dvd's

That means you clicked the icon to search for a media server. When you enter a BluyRay disk and you go to the Video section, you should see your BluRay disk icon below the media server icon.

How to get multimedia on my ps3

ok, lsn on ur pc or laptop open windows media player (((11))) add there all kind of media(Move,Music,Pics...ets) u wanna share or add to PS3, then go to library there is an arrow under it, click it and go to media sharing, now turn ur PS3 on and go lets say to Music part in the menu and click on Search for Media server it will tell u that there is 1 media server found ok, go to the pc or laptop and KEEP ur Windows Media Player Active dont close it okkk, there will be a msg from WMPlayer telling u that there is a device trying to connect with me what should i do? u should click Allow, now as soon as u Allow PS3 to connect with WMPlayer it will share everything u've added to WMPlayer with PS3 without moving it to PS3 so u will lose Space in ur PS3, PS3 will now browse ur Library and u can choose which file to run and u can choose a wallpaper for ur PS3 even when turn ur PC or laptop off, u will still be able to see ur new background picture. and thats it looooooool :)))
