Unfortunately wireless routers fail somewhere after the warranty runs out. I have never gotten 5 years out of a router by any different manufacturers. Nothing in the settings except for the hours of operation will stop the router from working. If you have never made the time settings, then the router has failed internally.
Do you have the belkin configured for wireless? Do other laptops in the house pick up the belkin?
Did you have the wireless switch on the laptop turned on?
Maybe you don't have your wireless turned on. Look onboth sides and in front for the Wireless Switch and turn it on.
Also once the wireless switch is turned on there are keystrokes that can togglethe wireless on or off. Normally you would Press and Hold the FN functionkey located at the lower left of the keyboard, then hit the correct F1 thru F12key that toggles the wireless. The correct F1 thru F12 key to hit willhave the wireless signal icon )))) on it. Or it might have the icon of a towerwith the wireless signal icon )))). Normally the screen will displayWireless On or Wireless Off when you toggle the wireless.
if the wireless light is lit up in red it says "someone is trying to connect to your network using wrong password"
Sometimes if any of your devices are not compatible with the security enabled in the router then the light will lit up in red. click here to know more about security types of belkin router
routers has to be turned off atleast 2 hours per day for it to work properly...
so better turn off the router when not in use, this will clear the routing table of your router and will make the router to work as a fresh router everyday, so you wont face any speed problems.
Possible the wireless capabilitiy of your router is turned off and the security is turned off meaning that there is no security key in the router settings yet,
you will need to get in your routers default gateway check by going into the Dos Promp, type in IPCONFIG this will show you your IP address and default gateway type your default gateway in the address bar of your browser IE or Firefox ths should ask for a user name and password to get in your router the default user name will be admin and the password can be blank or password, or admin as well, depnds if your internet service provider change the password and user name of the router. once in the router check wireless settings look if the wireless is turned on the router and for the security just create a network security key to hav that light turned on if you want.
The "wireless" (second) light on this model does not indicate that the router's wireless features are active, it indicates that a computer is connected to the router wirelessly. If the "router" (fourth) light shows three little "radio wave" symbols, the router's wireless capability is on.
IF the wireless light is OFF on your router, you wont really have any wireless connection and its also a sign that there's some problem with the router, first thing to do here is to reset the router by pressing the reset button for 30 seconds while the power is ON, then after that power off the router for 5 seconds and power it back, and hopefully the wireelss light will be on, if its still not ON better call Belkin and let one of their tech walk you through in checking the router....
