The top screen is floppy it just falls back and does not stay in place - what can I do?

Get the hinge replaced and next time be more careful with going past where it clicks into place when open.

Screen is black


The strip that connects the screen to the motherboard, probably fall out of the socket. That's why you don't see anything on the screen. It's just my opinion though.

I have a Philips arcitec. It has a 3-part head and one of the parts is very floppy and looks like it wants to fall off. I have no idea what happened to it - and it's not old! Help!!!!


Each of the 3 outer parts of the head are designed to flip out for cleaning. The one that is 'floppy' may just eed to be snapped back down into place. If there is a buildup of hair particles, this can prevent it from snapping into place. Clean the head assembly thoroughly with rubbing alcohol and try to close it back into place.
If this doesnt work, the head may be broken and need replacing. You will find a replacement at shaveroutlet.com. See link below

I'm using windows xp home edition i got the virus


You had "Floppy disk seek failure" per your comment. Therefore this is not a problem with your hardisk. Your BIOS was configured boot up from Floppy that was why when you booted up it was looking for info from the Floppy, so if it could not find, it was sure to report to you. Just pop something out of your Floppy then you should be OK. Cheer.

Hayward Phantom pool cleaner-up/both/down switch replacement


There are 5 screws on the bottom, remove them and hold the cleaner together while turning it right side up. Lift off the top cover (watch the styrofoam inserts that go behind the back wheels), sometimes they fall out when the cover is removed but they're easy to put back in place. This will give you access to both the switch and the round gear box. Lift both out then put the switch on and lower the gear box back into place.

I want to fit bigger hard drive to my ibm 380ed


Hard Drive Installation Instructions:

  • 1. Turn the notebook upside-down.
  • 2. Remove the battery pack.
  • 3. Remove the 8 Phillips screws on the bottom half of the notebook.
  • 4. Turn the notebook right-side-up.
  • 5. Raise the LCD.
  • 6. Remove the top half completely off of the notebook. Remove the 3 keyboard cables from the motherboard and set the top half of the notebook aside.
  • 7. Remove the top Phillips screw from behind the LCD right hinge.
  • 8. Remove the Phillips screw that is located above the parallel port.
  • 9. Remove the CD/Floppy disk and flip it out of the way (you don't have to remove its cables).
  • 10. Slide the hard drive out of the notebook.
  • 11. Remove the bracket from the old hard drive and install it onto the new hard drive.
  • 12. Slide the new hard drive into the notebook, making sure that it is firmly connected.
  • 13. Place the CD/Floppy disk back.
  • 14. Place back the Phillips screws that were removed in STEP# 9 and STEP# 8.
  • 15. Take the top half of the notebook and place back its 3 keybaord cables to the motherboard.
  • 16. Snap the top half of the notebook down and make sure that it is firmly in place.
  • 17. Close the LCD.
  • 18. Turn the notebook upside-down.
  • 19. Place back the 8 Phillips screws that were removed in STEP# 3.
  • 20. Place the battery pack back.

    3.5" FLOPPY DISKETTE
    Below we have represented a picture of the now commonly used 3.5" floppy diskettes. The below representation is what the back of a floppy diskette looks like. As you can see there are four main visible parts:
    floppyd.gif First, the top left of the back of the floppy there is a small tab. This tab enables the floppy disk to be switched from write protected and un-write protected. Move the tab to the top position, creating a hole, makes the disk write protected. This means that nothing can be written, erased or deleted from the diskette. Moving the tab to the bottom position allows the disk to be un-write protected, which means the diskette can be written too, erased, and or have information deleted from the diskette. Some diskettes, which are generally cheaper diskettes, will be missing this tab. To write information to the diskette you will have to place a piece of scotch tape over the hole.
    Second, the top right hand of the back of the floppy you will notice a small hole. This tells the computer if the diskette within the computer is a High Density diskette.
    Third, you will notice the circular metal disk in the middle of the floppy diskette. This is used to rotate the magnetic medium within the floppy disk casing.
    Fourth, you will see a metal door which can be moved left and then will snap back to its original position. This door is used to allow the read/write head within the floppy drive to have the capability of accessing the magnetic medium within the casing. Once the diskette is removed, this door will snap back into position, helping to prevent anything from getting on the magnetic medium and destroying it.
    5 1/4" FLOPPY DISKETTE
    Below is a representation of a 5 1/4" floppy commonly used in 1980's and is generally no longer used today. The 5 1/4" floppy diskette was really floppy (flimsy) when compared to the 3.5" floppy diskette.
    floppyd3.gif As you can notice in the above illustration, the 5 1/4" floppy does not have many involved components. First, you will notice the Write protection tab which would be present if the diskette allowed information to be written to it. Placing a piece of tape over the hole or if the hole was not present would make the diskette write protected.
    Second, you should notice the large hole in the center of the floppy diskette. This hole allowed the platter within the floppy to be rotated allowing the information to be read from the write access hole.
    Third, you should notice the Index hole, this hole was the computer's way of knowing where the starting point of the sector was on the diskette by physically having a hole punched in the film disc within the plastic casing.
    Finally, you should notice the write access hole. This is the location which information would be read from as the disc within would rotate. However, because there was no protection like that found on the 3.5" floppy diskette, the 5 1/4" floppy diskette was generally protected by placing it within a protective sleeve.

    Black Screen shows memory counting which stops at 256 Mb [is correct] Hit F10 & screen says "Setup" in bottom right hand corner-screen is still black. Floppy Drive Bay green light staying on. Regards John

    Cover will not stay opened


    It sounds like you need new hinges for your computer. I didn't see any for your particular model on eBay which would be the best place to look but you may be able to contact Toshiba and order replacement hinges. To replace the hinges, you will need to remove the bezel from the LCE screen and possibly the power button board, depending on how your particular laptop is put together.
