The door does not have enough pressure to close ,possible dirty roller wheels ,bad bearings in pulley wheel ,you would have four iof them unless you have torsion spings , spray with wd-40 thoroughly and then adjust the downward pressure sensitivity to about 1/2 usualy the settings from 1-12 so you would set it to 6 ,if the door still dosent stay down adjust in single increments till it does stay shut , if that dont work make shure if you have door safety infrared sensors that their is nothing toward the bottom of the door that can possibly stick fron the door and trip the door to return to the upward position , please check theese things first and hopefully one of theese idea,s will solve your problem , if you think i was of help please leave me a nice feedback ,thank you and it was apleasure being able to help you ,sincerely glenn mayer

Fix my Craftsman 139.53973SRT garage door opener? When the button is pushed, the motor runs but the chain doesn't move. When I get on a ladder and try to pull the chain (help it along) it wil

If you disconnect the chain from the door (like you would do if the electricity went out and you needed to get the car in/out). Can you easily open and close the door by yourself? (it should not slam when closing).

If not then your springs could be bad or not set to the correct torque.

If you can open and close easily the door then there could be a issue with the motor or the gearing. BTW sears does not make garage door openers. They have OEM's rebrand their with sear's label. You don't need to have sear come out maybe a generic garage door person or even a handyman. But unless it's under warranty it won't be free.

Replaced a garage door opener (motor only) will only go downward a foot then back to the up position...tried the force button and the spring adjustment. why wont it work

Try this.

Loosen the chain enough so that you can remove it from the sprocket above the motor unit. With the door closed run the motor until the sprocket turns clockwise and stops. With everything attached replace and tighten the chain. Some adjusting of the up and down limits will probably be required.

Garage door opened fine but now when I try to close it, all I hear is a buzzing sound for 3 sec., light comes on but door won't go down.

Your trolley may be jammed against the bolt just in front of the motor unit. If so, loosen the chain enough to relieve the strain on the chain and then run the opener until the door is closed. While the door is closed locate the 'up limit' control on the side of the motor unit. Turn this control 2 full turns in the opposite direction of the arrow printed on the cover. Tighten the chain.

Sears garage door will not reverse. It will not close the door. Only goes 1 way has been working for years no adjustments have been done problem occurred all of a sudden

Check to see if the trolley is jamming against the bolt just in front of the motor unit. If so, loosen the chain enough that you can run the opener until it closes. While the door is closed locate the 'up limit' control on the side of the motor unit. Turn this control 2 full turns in the opposite direction of the arrow printed on the cover. Tighten the chain.

Door opens all the way, won't close, gets the signal but won't reverse directions...

If your door is opening so far the trolley jams against the bolt in front of the motor unit you will need to loosen the chain until the tension is relieved from the chain. Run the opener until the door closes and while the door is closed locate the 'up limit' control on the side of the motor unit. Turn this control 2 full turns in the opposite direction of the arrow printed on the cover. Tighten the chain.

Loosen the chain until the stress on the trolley is relieved. Now run the opener until the door closes. While the door is closed locate the 'up limit' control on the side of the motor unit. Opener will not reverse

FIRST YOU NEED TO RESET THE CHAIN .

Unplug power
Release the door from the opener close the door manually. take the chain loose and slide the traveler down to reengage with the trolley. Plug in power, run the unit with chain off untill it completes a clockwise cycle and stops. reconnect the chain and set tension.

Adjust the chain tension.

If it still moves 6-8 inches and flashes 5 times. the problem is in the rpm sensor.
