It sounds like the coils are fine if you are getting heat. They are likely shutting down from overheating after being on for awhile. Check your filter and overall air flow to make sure it's adequate.

We have a interthem 2460 a furace and we need to know where to find a wiring diagram to show us how to connect it to the electric

If there is not a wiring diagram pasted inside the furnace somewhere, request it directly from Intertherm. Be sure to specify model 2460.

Is there any danger in running my Carrier HVAC in "Emergency Heat" mode all the time?

No theirs no danger in running the Emergency Heat all the time, Emergency Heat is your backup heat mode. when the Heat Pump is not working do to a malfunction or Defrost, the Emergency Heat kicks in. The Emergency Heat is usually electric heaters so your electric bill will be much higher.

Questions about a dual energy heating furnace

If you have a heat pump the electric heat is the emergency heat. Short explanation of a heat pump is it switches the jobs of the indoor and outdoor coils. So instead of taking heat from inside and moving it outside it works backwards picking up heat from outside and moving it indoors. Probably an electrical problem. 7_7_2014_5_33_51_pm.png

I JUST BOUGHT THIS UNIT IT HAS THE OUTSIDE UNIT AND THE INSIDE UNIT AND I WAS TOLD THAT THE HEAT PACKS IN THE INSIDE HANDLER IS FOR EMERGENCY HEAT ONLY...IS THIS TRUE?

Yes, if you are talking about a heat pump. It you have an electric furnace inside, the electric elements are for emergency heat. Otherwise, unless you switch it manually at the thermostat, the heatpump (outdoor unit) will run all year around. If you want to use your inside heater (electric heater) just switch your thermostat to "emergency heat" and it will turn on the electrical elements instead of the outdoor unit. This way will make your elec. bill higher tho. The heat pump is much more efficient. Hope this helps you , have good day

My heat pump is shot and is operating off the emergency heat. Can I just continue to use it this way or do I have to replace the heat pump?

You mean you are using the Emergency heat setting instead of the heat pump????...You're using Natural gas only now tn emergency heat????That's fine...I wouldn't replace a heat pump if you have Natural gas....it's too expensive compared to Gas....you may be able to still use the heat pump as an Air Conditioner only , it depends on what's wrong with it...otherwise you will have to get a Central Air unit instead...cheaper and just use the Gas for heat

My guess I would say, you either have a wire that is short to ground or if the contacter pulls in, then I would say the compresser is short to ground. There also could be some capacitors that could be short.

Intertherm heat pump

FIRST YOUR OUTSIDE UNIT PROVIDES HEAT BY USING A REVERSING VALVE TO CHANGE THE REFRIGERANT FLOW.THERE IS NO HEAT STRIPS OUTSIDE SECOND YOUR EMERGENCY HEAT TURNS ON ELECTRIC ELEMENTS INSIDE YOUR AIRHANDLER UNIT.IT SOUNDS LIKE SOMEONE HAS WIRED YOUR UNIT WRONG OR HAS THE THERMOSTAT SET IMPROPERLY.WHEN THE HEAT PUMP CANNOT SATTISFY THE SETPOINT THE THERMOSTAT IS SUPPOSED TO TURN ON YOUR ELEC. HEAT UNTILL THE LOAD HAS BEEN REACHED AND THE HEAT PUMP CAN CONTINUE TO MAINTAIN IT.
