Deleting file names in WMP

Hi
I've deleted files in WMP, but filenames remain when I go into "file".
Any ideas?

I have to upload a document on a site in word format, without any file extension, I have tried different ways but was not able to upload a file without having any extension?

Hi,

I'm not sure why you'd have to upload a word document without the file extension, but you can do it by following these instructions:

Open Windows Explorer
Browse to the folder that has your document in it
Go to the Tools Menu (if there's none, press the ALT button)
Choose Folder Options
Select the 'View' tab
Make sure that the tickbox for 'Hide extensions for known file types' is NOT ticked
Click Ok until you are back to the folder with your document in it.

It should now have a name like Document.doc or Document.docx

Click on the file once, then once it is highlighted click again, and you can delete the .doc or .docx part.

Press enter when you are happy with the filename. Windows will give you a warning message saying it's not a good idea, but you can click ok past this.

OR

If you are trying to upload a file WITH a file extension, follow the same instructions above, and instead of deleting the .doc or .docx, simply add it to the end of the filename.

Weird folder/filenames that will not delete There is a folder on my WD 250 GB Passport Flash drive who's properties show it to be using 157 GB of memory. The Read Only attribute was set, unchecked it. I...

Problem: Folders / files in USB flash drive got named with weird strange characters & those folder / files cannot be copied or deleted.

Reason: Virus infected

Solution:
1. Click on "Computer"
2. Right click on the drive that contains USB flash drive
3. Select "properties"
4. Click on "Tools"
5. Click on "Check Now"
6. Check disc options will appear on screen, put a tick mark in the box in front of Automatically fix file system errors
7. Tick mark in the box in front of Scan for & attempt recovery of bad sectors is not necessary.
8. Click on "Start"
9. Upon finishing of this task, screen will show message "Your device disc was successfully scanned" and bla bla. Close it.
10. After this process the undeletable folder in USB flash drive can be deleted by selecting it & deleting it. The contents of affected folders files cannot be recovered.

After lot of struggle I got this solution on my own by the grace of God.
Sure it will work for others too.

Thanks and regards Raju

Itunes wont open and says cant find needed file?

hi
This usually happens when you have either renamed the file, moved the file somwhere else, or deleted it all together. Sometimes you may forget editing the filename or moving it to a subfolder.

Whenever you do this be sure to go to itunes and either add the file again and delete the old one from the database or "Get Info" and update the current file. tho u ve not mentioned any specific name of the file i m tryin to give u an example..suppose u are cant locate the music file m sure the files are where they are supposed to be then they must have been renamed. You can verify this - Find a track with an exclamation mark next to it
Open your iTunes Music Library.xml file with Notepad (the iTunes Music Library.xml file is usually in C:\Documents and Settings\YOURNAME\My Documents\My Music\iTunes).
Search for the track name
A dozen or so lines below the track name will be the full path to the file and the filename.
Compare this to where you know the file to be. If it is different then that would show that something/someone has moved/renamed the file. hope u will b sorted out wth ur problem... all the best regards.

Cannot delete my bad files...

Could be a process issue stopping you deleting the files. Try downloading unlocker (http://ccollomb.free.fr/unlocker/) and see if this helps.

If not it might be an 8.3 naming convention issue. Go to DOS prompt to a "dir /x /a". Rename the file to less than 8 characters using the SHORT name only. Then try deleting the file.

Del and delete do not support replaceable parameters (wild cards).
Examples
Notice: Users who are running Microsoft Windows 95 and are used to deleted items going to the recycle bin need to keep in mind that deleting files from MS-DOS does not send files to the recycle bin. del test.tmp = Deletes the test.tmp in the directory that you currently are in, if the file exists.
del c:windows est.tmp = Delete the c:windows est.tmp in the windows directory if it exists.
del c:windows emp*.* = (* is for wild character(s)) *.* indicates that you would like to delete all files in the c:windows emp directory.
del c:windows emp?est.tmp = (? is a single wild character for one letter) This command would delete any file ending with est.tmp such as pest.tmp or zest.tmp...

You may also configure your outlook express to auto delete Emails by creating a rule for them.
