The scrollbar on touchpad in my Compaq C-772TU laptop[windows XP] is not working.Pls help.

    I have a compaq cq40-144tu model...have installed windows professional 2002 with sp3 in it.....the problem m facing wid my laptop is that the scroll bar of my touchpad is isnt working......which drivers do i have to install....pls help

the touch pad should work even if you erased the files as it uses generic Human Interface Device drivers. Be careful that you didn't accidental disable the touchpad with the Fn+F2 or other Fn key combination(the key that you should combine with Fn has to has a touchpad icon on it) Another posibility is that you have enabled an option to disable the touchpad upon usb mouse connection. Also it would help if you gave me more details about what and where you erased.

The information provided is somewhat limited, however, here are a few things to consider.
1.) Check for a touchpad button located immediately above the touchpad itself. Some laptops have this and some don't. If your laptop has this, try pressing it once since it is the ON/OFF button for the touchpad.
2.) It's possible you're experiencing a settings issue. Rather than trying to weed out the specific issue, it would be much easier to do a system restore and revert your system settings back to when the touchpad worked. Goto Start/All Programs (or just Programs)/Accessories/System Tools/System Restore. You want to choose a System Restore date that is BEFORE your issue started. System Restore can take up to 15-20 minutes and should not be interrupted. Just set your oven timer for 20 min and come back after it dings to test your touchpad.
3.) You could have a driver issue. You'll want to check Device Manager for this. In Windows XP, click on Start, RIGHT-click on My Computer, click on Properties, click on the Hardware tab, click on the Device Manager button. In Vista, click Start, RIGHT-click Computer, click Properties, click Device Manager (the link in the upper-left corner of the System Properties window). If you see any yellow question marks or exclamation points anywhere in this list, it's likely your touchpad driver needs reinstalled. Check your manufacturers website for the latest driver.
4.) If none of the above work, you may need to replace the touchpad (or just use a USB mouse).

My touchpad on my compaq laptop will move but will not move in the direction im moving it to instead it goes all over the screen


Try cleaning the touchpad off, and if that does not work talk to the place you bought it from about getting a new touchpad installed. However it could be a software issue, restart your laptop and run an antivirus scan.

The problem is with my hp compaq 6730b The touchpad reacts slowly to finger moves (driver from official site). Not too slowly, but that ~0.2 second delay really annoys me and makes the work very...


You may want to try uninstalling the compaq driver and letting Windows 7 install the Microsoft compatible driver. Also, check the speed settings in the Mouse applet in the control panel.

If you use the mouse constantly for work and things, you may also want to consider getting a regular mouse to plug in to a USB port on your laptop.

My touchpad won't work on a compaq presario CO50, button is on, but on working?


Try a restart if that doesn't work, connect a usb mouse and go to the device manager and see if the drivers for the touchpad are installed.
If they aren't, go to http://www.hp.com and input your model number into the search box, there will be a place to download the touchpad drivers. Install those and your touchpad should be working.

I have a laptop compaq 510. its touchpad does not work but according to the device manager, the device is working properly and it has no conflicts.


1) First, make sure that you have the touchpad enabled in the BIOS. To enter BIOS, press DEL key as laptop starts. Check on the devices list in the bios and set the touchpad to enabled.

2) Secondly, ensure you have the right drivers for the touchpad. These can be downloaded at

You probably need to re-install the driver for the touchpad. Go to the Compaq support site and download the driver for your computer.

The pad is something like an ALPS, but you can search for drivers based on your exact model.

My touchpad is not wrking at all. Then I reinstal


You should send the laptop back for replacement if it's under warranty. Bad touchpads seem to be pretty common nowadays, on my HP DV5 which is 3 weeks old it has failed on the 4th day. It does not bother me though, as i have bought a mini USB mouse for $5 and it is much better than the touchpad anyway.

If you'd ask me, i'd say just buy an USB mouse, it's much more practical.

Scroll sections on mousepad not working


almost certainly this means that the drivers for the touchpad have reverted to the windows generic drivers. Try the driver from Compaq here. Sadly, without knowing the OS and exact model number of the laptop I can't be more specific on the link than that. The exact model of the laptop is usually printed on a sticker on the bottom.
