My screen is gradually going black. I have had my hp pavilion mx 50 for quite a few years now,(7-8), lately the screen is getting darker and darker to the point where I can no longer read anything on it. Is it just wearing out or is there something I can do to restore it?

- thanks, i guess i should have specified this is a desktop system, an hp pavilion 760n tower and an hp pavilion MX50 monitor. it is not a laptop.

- I will be upgrading to a laptop soon, i just need this system to last for a few more months if possible, but I don't want to sink $'s into it. I just wondered if there was a way to open it up and clean it or perhaps a small inexpensive part I needed to replace to get the monitor to work again.
if you can still find one you can replace the backlight on your lcd screen. I Have included a link to show you ecaxtly what i am talking about. However with having a system that old i would highly recommend upgrading to a new computer. Running an older one may limit the programs you are able to use and the connections you can make. This one Or I like This one a lot more

- since it is a desktop computer the chances of fixing the problem are slim. The easiest would be to buy a new monitor. Then when you upgrade you will be able to use the monitor with the laptop to give yourself a bigger display. Then you would not be wasting the money
I had the same problem a month ago...with mine, it was the backlight for the LED screen. Although mine was still under warrenty...I did some research and found it sounds a lot easier to replace the whole screen (the whole top piece of the laptop) than to try to replace the bulb itself. Basically, you have to dismantle the top of the computer. You can get some great deals on eBay...
