Question about Acer Computers & Internet
You need to remove the main board to get at the bottom, the solder side. You'll also need an appropriate size soldering iron and solder wick for unsoldering the old jack. And of course you will need the replacement jack.
The hardest part is removing the board. You need to remove all the screws necessary to take off the keyboard, display and top cover. Then you need to remove any modules (hard drive, CD drive, etc.) as required. Finally you can take out the screws holding the main board in and lift it off the bottom cover. Replacing the power jack itself is a simple soldering job (if you have the tools and experience). Use solder wick (or a desoldering iron) to unsolder the old jack, put in the new one and resolder the connections.
The disassembly process for most models is basically the same. There are a number of videos on youtube showing how it's done for a few models. You can search youtube to see if one is the same model you have, or just watch a few of the videos to see the general procedure.
It's not an impossible repair if you are patient, have the necessary tools (small screwdrivers, soldeing equipment, etc.) and enough room to set parts aside as you work so you can keep them organized. When I worked at a computer shop our repair charge for jack replacement was around $100, so you can save some money if you do it yourself. But you can also do more harm than good if you're not careful, so you might want to get an estimate if you're no sure.
Good luck! If you have found my solution helpful, please take a moment to rate it accordingly. Thanks for asking here!
