Are your D & E drive optical drives (DVD/CD) or hard disks or partitions? The problem might be that there are no media in the optical drives or if they are partitions there might be a problem or they are not formatted.

I had same problem before, I couldn't open them by double click, but could open by win explorer or by type in address bar, so I update my anti-virus, and scan my pc, it kill some viruses and then it fixed!

2 things...go into ur Control panel and in the MOUSE area change the way ur mouse clicks to run things..then save those settings.

OPen Real Player options or preferences. Look for an option to how it handles running things. then uncheck it. save those settings.

Opening of drives

I have seen this several times and it is brought about due to a virus that creates an autorun file (autorun.ini).

In this file when you double click the drive, executes the file and in the autorun file exists any of the following: -
Microsoftpowerpoint.exe
smss.exe
.... or many others.

It is good thing that you have a strong antivirus which seems to have removed the viruses and therefore when the information file is opened, it does not find the executables it was supposed to run. That is why it asks for a program to open.

You can prove this by right clicking on the drive to see a shortcut menu and in this menu, the bolded menu will be the action taken when double clicked and the possibility is that you will find Autorun bolded.

To resolve the issue do the following:
1) Open My computer program or windows explorer.
2) Right click on the drive and open or explore it.
3) Locate the file Autorun and delete it. If the file is not shown, from the folder options choose show all files. This is because sometimes this file may be hidden.

Try double clicking the drives again to see if you get he same error.

NOTE: Many virus developers have made possible for people to install/run viruses in there own computers by simply double clicking the drives like flash disk.

Cannot open my D drive by double clicking but it shows the option open with note pad help

You drive has been infected by a virus. but I think you can still open it by not double click rather to right click on the D drive and choose explore from the menu.
But this not the solution save the files somewhere and work out on removing the virus.
