My card has pictures on it, but when I press playback button & turn dial it does not show an image.

The above problem was tried on two(2) cards with the same results. The LCD monitor shows message (no image). In using one of the above cards and took a picture (as an experiment), to my surprise, picture was shown on the LCD monitor but turning the dial did not advance or move back the image

ALTERNATE WAY TO TRANSFER PHOTOS AND VIDEOS TO A COMPUTER
If your photos and videos are stored on the memory card, then remove the memory card from the camera and insert it into an USB memory card reader. Connect this USB memory card reader and memory card into the USB port of your working computer. Your computer will see this as an USB Mass Storage Device or an external storage device; you can then open the folder on the memory card and copy the photos and to your computer. Memory card reader is a handy device and is inexpensive. You can copy photos from other cameras and you can also download photos off your memory card to someone else's computer without the need of installing any programs.

SOURCE: Camera image does not show up on LCD

This model has had problems with the CCD element that acts as the eye of the camera. I would recommend that you return the camera to Canon in New Jersey and let them replace it at no charge to you. Good luck to you. Joe Weibel customelectronics.org

SOURCE: Memory Card Error-Won't take Pictures

Hi momincali - I posted a solution for someone that seemed to have the same problem as you. If you didn't see it, this is what I wrote:

I had the same problem on my PowerShot S400 as well as I couldn't reformat the compact flash when using the feature on the camera. The solution that worked for me was reseating a small battery (about the size of a watch battery) in side the camera. To get to it you have to take the case apart.
I found this solution by googling and typing:
powershot S400 E50 error
I'm not sure if this site will allow me to add the web link - but this link had a picture of the camera and where the battery is located.
http://www.pinoyhack.com/2006/09/14/canon-powershot-s400-fix/

I decided to try it, since I figured I had nothing to loose, becaues otherwise I'd be looking for buying a new camera. To my surprise it fixed my problem, but I do not know if this is a permanent fix. If you do try this - take note of where each of the screws come from. There were 4 different size screws around the case.

There seem to be a lot of complaints about this problem though.

Good luck.

SOURCE: no image in the LCD, its black

restore the factory settings

turn camera on, press the menu button for 5 seconds and the default setting comes up. select ok and it all goes back to normal. I think that the exposure was wrong, therefore not letting enough light so the screen always appeared black.

Solution:
1 set date to 31-12-2030 23h59 and switch camera off.
2 wait two minutes, day will be 01-01-2003 and camera asks you to set the date
3 take away memory card
4 set the date to today
5 insert memory card again
Now your error should be solved.

Sometimes if you take the card from the camera to the computer and the computer rotates the file from landscape to portrait it will no longer playback on the camera.

I have a Pentax Optio E40 and get the message that the built in memory is full. How can I see what is in that memory? Can I delete those pictures to clear the memory?

Yes you can play back the images and/or delete them from the internal memory from the camera. I strongly recommend an SD card in the future. The internal memory can hold a maximum of about 87 pictures at the lowest resolution (2 pictures at the highest resolution). It'll be easiest to view the current pictures without an SD card in place.

To view the pictures, press the playback button (above and to the left of the 4-way arrow buttons) on the back of the camera. Use the left/right buttons in that 4-way area to navigate through the pictures. (You'll start at the last photo.) If you want to start the camera in playback mode, just press and hold the playback button while you turn on the camera.

To delete the picture that you are looking at, press the green/trash button to the right of the Menu button. Then press the up/down arrows to reach Delete and click OK (in the center of the 4-way buttons). (See Page 100 (page 102) of the manual.)

If you press the green button twice, you'll get a prompt to Delete all. That is similarly navigated with the up/down arrows and then OK.

Ricoh owns the Pentax Optio Line and has the manuals here: http://www.us.ricoh-imaging.com/support/download-details/356 . (You'll need Adobe Reader to access the program.) The user manual is the second link.

I hope this helps.

How tu use video recording..

Hi,

The picture that I posted shows a TZ3 mode dial. I added a blue arrow to point out an icon on the mode dial.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Turn the mode dial on the camera so this icon is selected.
2. Switch on the camera.
3. Aim the camera at your subject, press the shutter button halfway to focus, then press it fully to begin the video. (Just as you would take a picture.)
4. To stop taking video, press the shutter button fully again.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

~When a video starts being taken, its current length will appear on the camera's LCD screen.
~Videos take up more space on the memory card than do pictures.
~If an SD memory card becomes full while recording, then the video will stop automatically.
~Videos can be played back on the camera's "PLAYBACK" mode. They can also be viewed on a TV or downloaded to a computer.

Need to delete memory

You need to remove the memory card from the camcorder and place it into a pc or photo shops computer. This will allow you to view the saved items on the memory card. You can then save these to disc and delete the contents on the card.

Next, press menu and the down arrow. This down arrow is located on the round button with the "OK" in the center. Your choices should be DELETE, SLIDE SHOW, PROTECT, QUALITY CHANGE, RESIZE, and the one that you want,COPY TO CARD. Press OK and the camera will copy pictures from internal memory to the memory card. This information is on page EN-62 and EN-63. I know that this works because I was testing the information as I was typing it!

Deleting Photos From The Memory Stick

Deleting Still images From The Memory Stick This procedure is nearly identical with all of our digital camcorders. The only difference you may find is that there may not be an enter button on your model. If this is the case, the menu dial serves as your enter button when you push it in. * If you want to delete protected images, you must first deactivate the image protection. * An image which has been deleted cannot be recovered. 1. Set the mode switch to MEMORY CARD. 2. Set the power switch to PLAYER. 3. Using the (FWD) and (REV) buttons, search for the still image that you want to delete. 4. Press the MENU button. 5. Turn the MENU DIAL to highlight MEMORY and press the ENTER button. The MEMORY SET submenu will appear. 6. Turn the MENU DIAL to highlight DELETE and press the ENTER button. Using the MENU DIAL, select either THIS FILE or ALL FILES and press the ENTER button. *THIS FILE : deletes only the file currently selected. *ALL FILES : deletes all files stored in the Memory Card. 7. A box will appear to verify whether you wish to delete the image(s). Using the MENU DIAL, select the item. *EXECUTE : deletes the selected image(s). *CANCEL : does not delete the selected image(s) and returns to the previous menu.
