Philips 37PF7320A/37 - no picture and no sound. blinks red 1-4

I have a Philips LCD TV 37PF7320A/37 - No picture and no sound.
It clicks than blinks green once, then red once, then four more times red. What error code is it? Power supply? Seems to be a common issue with this set. Fuses on power supply board are ok. I need a service manual and a diagrams... and help of course...

NVRAM is non volatile ram, NVRAM is an eeprom chip installed on digital board that contains all basic data needed to start up your TV.

If you have 4 blinks the problem should not be power board.

Unless you find a defective capacitor, replacing caps on power board may not be necessary.

On the Service manual is illustrated the service mode procedure, in there you find a factory reset procedure, that will reset nvram.

If reset does not fix the problem, then you need to test voltages from nvram chip, one of the pins is diag, and must test +5V to ensure nvram is OK.

On the sides of the capacitors its values are correctly mentioned .you just adjust the multimeter on that mode and check out the capacitors which looks little bit bulged up or look loose on the board as little bit reading up or down from its mentioned value has to be replaced.also many a times some capacitor looks fine but internally they go short which liile bit seems like got leaked from its top or goes burnt with blackness got collected on its top.and also if you keep the pcb board connected to the tv and on the tv for a minute and shut down the tv then the faulty capacitos gets overheated which can be checked by touching it onits top with a fdinger tip for a second.as it will be too hot so be carefull.unplug the tv from main power outlet before touching any internal part.

The 4 flash code(red light) indicates a problem with the 5v supply. The 1 flash (green light ) indicates the X-ray protection and/or the Vertical protection has been activated.
These sets are assembled using the wave soldering process they are known for having cold solder connections.
Over time the capacitors will change value, leak and become defective. Resistors will change value and burn. This will cause other components to become defective. This can have a domino effect and cause other parts to fail. Replacing one defective part may make the TV operate for a short time but the part will fail again since if the parts that caused the failure to begin with are not replaced. For a proper repair all the electronics must be diagnosed by someone with the correct electronic test equipment and the skills to use the test equipment.

You can get service manual from the link below and check for defective parts .

Service manual for philips

If you take to service center they will charge you $400-500 for repairing .
Hope this helps .

Hey,

theres a service manual available for you
https://www.manualsparadise.com/MainSearch.do?brand=269&model=37PF7320A%2F37&elementChanged=Find

I beleave this is pdf format but im sorry its not free. I don't own this manual.

The service manual generally includes a list of error codes and their reasons behind them. But imafraid that some service manuals don't provide any support, some provide only diagrams etc. Hopefully the above will have all you need to solve the problem.

it isn't the power supply, those numbers are for the capacitors in your TV its also to do with the BULB this is far far hard for you to fix unless you have a capacitor tester and see which ones are deffective (if they read less uf then what they should) "without power connected, you can kill yourself)
usualy you can see the brown spill out "when they explode" but they can also be damaged without any outside damage.

I wouldn't try to fix it myself, you need various parts to test with to find out exactly which one is deffectibe like a tv repair shop has.

but this is common and its quite expensive to repair I think they charge $600 for something like this, or if you have warranty then great!

  • lotfi bouakaz
    lotfi bouakaz Mar 03, 2009

you need a capacitor tester to check all capacitors have the right uf amount (expensive device anyway)
a voltmeter can help you define if power is going to chips, resistors circuits ect...
also check if cables are not cut using a multimeter.

  • lotfi bouakaz
    lotfi bouakaz Mar 03, 2009

there is a cap testor on ebay for like $20 its the cheapest and it works for me. maximum uf is 2000 uf and 2000 pf so makesure your caps are not more than that and this will tell you if your caps are gone or not, there's no point replacing them if nothing is wrong with them. if they read under what their capacity then they're faulty.

but i am pretty sure its not power its bulb and scaler board

remind me again the red light is on the actual screen or just on the small led bulb? you mean the whole screen flashes red? there's too much writing

capacitor tester looks like a multimeter, it's digital and it costs less than $30

Here is the service manual for you television. It will only cost about $8 but is well worth it instead of buying a new television. From the way it sounds you could be very correct it does soound like a power supply issue.

Hi!
First change the power socket and use a grounded supply. This due to short inside your tv circuit board. Also check for any swollen capacitors.

The issue you are facing is due to faulty capacitors on power supply circuit of your philips tv.

    Please ask for further clarifications.

You can check out for the 4 capacitors, are they burnt? Are the capacitors loosely soldered on the power supply board. You can look and can buy the power supply for your Philips 37PF7320A/37---

Philip tv no picture no sound

I have the model Philips 37PF7320A/37 won't turn on and MOST articles on the Internet say it's the Capacitors capictors capictors..I checked all of them. My tv just blinked red lights, had the clicking sound at first power on, but then goes black. No sound. No picture. Nothing. Just blinking red lights.

MINE WAS RESISTOR no. 3318 , a 100 OHM RESISTOR ON POWER SUPPLY BOARD.

I BOUGHT REPLACEMENT FOR .99 CENTS SOLDER IT, AND EVERYTHING WORKED!!!

THAT WAS ALL IT TOOK.

JUST A SUGGESTION..
1. CHECK FOR BULGING CAPACITORS (90 PERCENT OF THE PROBLEM)
2. THEN CHECK FOR RESISTORS WITH MULTIMETER ( FALLS INTO THE OTHER 10 PERCENT OF THE PROBLEM.)

TELL ME IF THAT HELPS..normanw1@yahoo.com

The TV is in some kind of protection mode, the blinking LED show you an error code.
Try pressing 062596 and then press menu button (do these in quick motion, don't let them to time out while keying)...see what happens
Well I think that if you would have a service manual for this set that would help a lot, I can send it to anyone who wants it via email/gmail. Let me know if anyone want one.

I also heard that this problem appeared with some people because the of the burnt fuse in the TV. To fix that it has to be taken to the tech shop. mecry.gif

And yes I also heard about this issue many times, seems like this TV set is very popular with this kind of problem.
