if there are no lights behind the power button hit the power button to see if the system is even trying to come on. if you see no lights at all when the power button is pressed then you may have a bad system board. if memory has been added to or replaced in the system recently it may also be the memory that is causing your problem.

Hello

First Remove all power (adapter power Cord and Battery (for laptops))
Hold down the ON button for 30secs (dispersing internal voltage)
Plug the power cord in only (ie leave battery out, for the moment)
Turn on
If it worked replace battery.

If it doesnt

Hi,

Take out the battery and try booting the machine on AC power only. If the machine boots up then let the operating system load up, the shut it down. Remove the AC jack and put the battery back in again, then power it up.

If it boots all is well if it doesn't then there could be a problem with the battery.

If the laptop won't start on AC power, what you could do is remove the system memory, clean the brass pins and the slots and then re-seat them/it.

Then try to turn the machine on.

Good luck.

Screen wont turn on

remove the battery and the power from the laptop.....then press and hold down the power button for 20 seconds ...... attach the AC power only and turn on the laptop this should turn on the system.
This drains the capacitors on the system (safety feature of laptops ... quite common)

If this does not work remove the Ram and reseat it ... something has either come loose or the backlight on the LCD has gone bad.

C500 Laptop won't come on power button just flashes

Have you tried attaching an external monitor when the LCD screen is disconnected from the motherboard? this connector is located under the keyboard strip – a piece of plastic just above the keyboard.
If it works, this way, then the video cable isn’t seated properly in the connector on the back of the screen. Plugging the video cable back in should fix the problem.
I don’t know how comfortable you are with taking apart laptops but I think that this information could be useful for you.

I have an HP Pavillion dv9500 laptop. After shutting down, all the keyboard lights to the right of the power button stay lit. This shows the power is not shut off but should be. Any solutions?

First of all, is the laptop on charge? Usually when the laptop is on charge there is a light somewhere that remains on until it is charged. After charging, the light goes of and if the laptop is not used for a long time, the battery usually discharges a little and the system senses this and recharges it as top-up and the light comes on, then goes off once charged. If your laptop is not on charge, then there is 2 things that could be the cause. 1) It is not shut down properly (on stand-by). 2) It may be downloading updates and it would probably shut down later, depending on the size of the update, it may take a few minutes or up to 1 hour. If in 1 hour the light is still on, then there is a problem with the laptop and need to be checked by a professional, or, altermnatively, turn it off a second time and see if the light still remains on. Lastly, you did not state what kind of lights remain on, Power, Charging, Standby, etc. it is difficult to help you with your query as the problem could be the laptop itself. There are other things that could keep the laptop on, and that may be if your laptop is connected to a network. Regards.

My laptop has no display

If the lights on the laptop are coming on and the screen is blank it can be a video card or LCD failure. Also other hardware conflicts can cause this. Try running the hardware tests.
First you'll have to power off the system.
You need to hold down the Fn button (Located next to the CTRL button on the left hand corner) and then power on the system. This will take the system to the diagnostics mode.
The tests will let you know more about the problem.
Incase you do not see anything on the screen in the tests look for the 3 lock lights above the keyboard. Note their status of the 3 lights.

System does'nt always start up, push power button and power light comes on, HDD light flashes, nothing else happens. Push power button to shut off sytem. Power up again and computer might start and run for...

You might try the battery first. If it's not getting properly charged then it won't start. Then if you let it sit for hours (or days) it gets enough charge to start. It could also be that the power cord or connection point is faulty. I would check these things before looking at the mother board. Most laptops will give you a "blue screen of death" if the mother board is going out.

Laptop doesnt boot only power ligth comes out when press on buttom a ligth comes out but nothing on the screen i dont hear the fan keep going.

Maybe there are some problem in your start button (the button wire connect to mainboard is Loosening.

Please press the start button for about 3-4 seconds then see it would start. Always it may solve the problem, this happend to my inspiron 6400 too, after used for years the start button failure. It shows only power lamp lights green but the other light cant light red.

If no, maybe your must change a power supply, as the lower volt current cant start all the device.
