110 volt kerosene torpedo heater hooked up 220

Someone mis-wired some outlets and we plugged our kerosene torpedo heater into a 220 outlet. it fried some of the circuit board - so we resoldered jumpers onto them but it still won't fire.....what else should i check?....what else would 220 to a 110 heater destroy?
thanks

I plugged my max 110 V Oliso iron into our house's only 220 V outlet. Smoke is being emitted and it is unusable (The iron, not iron). Can someone please tell me how to fix it?

are you saying that the iron works with 110 volts and you plugged it in a 220 volts outlet??? if so then the voltage is to high for the iron (luckily it didn't get burnt) but all you need to do is plug it into a 110 volt outlet

What do i have to do to plug my 110 air conditioner into where my 220 window unit

You need a step down transformer, to convert 220V to 110V. You can't just plug the 110V A/C unit in directly unless it is clearly marked as being suitable for multi-voltage supply (110V - 220V input).

Such a transformer has to be of sufficient capacity to handle the current, or wattage, that will be required. The Frigidaire unit in your question is a 3.5 kW cooling capacity, so the transformer would need to be about the same, ie for a 10A supply at least. They are quite big boxes, about $120.

You would put this in the roof or in a cupboard.

Can i plug a 110 air conditioners into a 220 plug in

Hi Shawn:
A 110 air conditioner would only use 1/2 of the available 220, so , the answer is yes, with a great BIG CAUTION!!!!!
You have to know how to safely wire in the appropriate plug.
- 220 usually will have 4 wires: Red, Black, White, and Green.
You get 220 between the red and black, the White is available for 110 to drive a fan or whatever.
- 220 sometimes only has 3 wires: Red, Black, and green
Here you have 220 with no 110, like a baseboard heater.
- 110 has 3 wires: RED OR BLACK, White, and Green.
You get 110 between the Red or Black and the white.
The White is called Neutral.
Do not use the green wire as a neutral if there is no white.
The green wire is a ground and is for safety purposes.

PLEASE!!!! If this is not perfectly clear and within your ability, DO NOT TRY TO WIRE IT! Get someone who is trade certified to help you. Also, don't even think about messing with the wiring unless the circuit breaker is turned off..

How can I wire a 110 outlet to a 220 outlet?

If the bed is a 220 volt, you can only use a 220 volt outlet.
If the bed is 110/220 you should check the web for specs and wireing.

WhAT HAPPENS IF I plug a 110 volt machine to a 220 outlet

Normally the plug connector would not fit, they are different. But for some reason, if you have one that takes 110 and you plug it into 220, there will be af ire. You will burn through the circuits immediately and short the entire thing out at every solder point. The real problem is the wattage. The watts are pushed with 220 volts of fource, which will fry your 110 setup.

My drier 110 volts was accidentally plugged to 220

The least of your problems would be a burnt out relay or internal switch which can be replaced at reasonable expense. In a worst case the motor or heating element "fried" and it'll be cheaper to buy a new dryer.
BTW 110 and 220 plugs are entirely different and a 110 plug cannot be plugged into a 220 outlet.

How can i convert our 220 volts wall outlet to 110 volts for a microwave oven.

Find the breaker for it (a double for 220) and substitue a single breaker (for 110). This will leave one wire unused from the breaker box to the outlet. You'll have to change the outlet of course to accommodate a normal 110 plug. You can also skip the breaker part and just change the outlet and cap off 1 of the hot wires. Just make sure to kill the power and be safe!

Wiring a stove

If there is no 220 outlet in the location where you're planning to put the stove then you need to run wiring to the new location. There are two seperate phases of 110 volts coming to your home. The voltage between each of these phases and the neutral wire is 110 volts. When your house was wired only 1 of the 110 volt signals was run to your 110 volt outlets. In order to create a 220 volt outlet you need both of the 110 volt signals run to the outlet.

If you have a straight shot between your breaker box and the location where you need the 220 volt outlet then this is not too big a deal. If you have finished ceilings and walls inbetween then this will be much more difficult.

If you're not comfortable with electrical wiring this would be a good time to call a licensed electrician.
