Windows XP does -not- have native SATA support and therefore will not recognize a SATA drive without first installing 3rd party drivers.
To go around this problem without installing drivers check your BIOS. There might be something in there where the bios will emulate an IDE controller.

If not, you'll need a floppy and the sata drivers. A flash drive will also do if the motherboard bios supports legacy USB. To find the drivers, simply go to the motherboards manufacturers website.

Oh, and, to install the drivers, just let the computer boot the windows installation cd. Once it does that you will see it load all kinds of third part drivers etc on the bottom of that nice blue screen. There will come a point where it prompts you to press F3 or F9 or whatever to install 3rd party storage device drivers. That's what you need to do. Then once that is done the drive will show up and you can partition and format it properly.

EP-8KRAI motherboard does not see WD2500AAKX SATA HDD

check the cable
make sure the hd is getting power
try another sata connection by swapping the cable from dvd device
make sure you set the drive select some drives require it
do not use cable select
make sure the battery back up has 3 volts
you could try shorting out the bios to reset the motherboard - there should be a jumper on the board, turn power off, the jumper or connect the two pin so the short out, than turn on machine, just for few seconds and turn off, remove the jumper.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx important xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
before or when booting the system push F10 to access bois
setup all devices, dvd, video card, if that dont work you can try F1 or F2 when you start the system
when you exit the bios make sure to save it i think F10 save and reboot. so save new changes and device ID.

Your motherboard does NOT support SATA drives, without an added SATA controller. It does support PATA drives, such as the Samsung SP2514N and the Seagate PATA drive you listed, as well as any other PATA drive. A PATA drive may be referred to as PATA, IDE, ATA100, ATA133, or even ATA66, but not SCSI, Ultra320, U320, or SATA, SATA II, SATA100, SATA300, etc.

The Seagate drives are easy to identify, their model number ends in AS if it is a SATA drive, and just A if it is a PATA drive.
