The computer does'nt shows the graphics when started

When I start the computer, the process run up to the stage of displaying the words XP WINDOWS. And then the computer stags and the process stops.But the cursor or pointer appear on the screen,and able to move when the mouse is moved.

If your computer gets to that stage, then I would guess you have an OS ( Operating System ) problem. Try booting from your XP installation CD. If that works then you may have to re-install Windows.

Change Text on XP Start Button


Step 1 - Modify Explorer.exe File

In order to make the changes, the file explorer.exe located at C:\Windows needs to be edited. Since explorer.exe is a binary file it requires a special editor. For purposes of this article I have used Resource Hacker. Resource HackerTM is a freeware utility to view, modify, rename, add, delete and extract resources in 32bit windows executables and resource files (*.res). It incorporates an internal resource script compiler and decompiler and works on Microsoft Windows 95/98/ME, Windows NT, Windows 2000 and Windows XP operating systems.

The first step is to make backup copy of the file explorer.exe located at c:\windows\explorer. Place it in a folder somewhere on your hard drive where it will be safe. Start Resource hacker and open explorer.exe located at c:\windows\explorer.exe

The category we are going to be using is "string Table". Expand it by clicking the plus sign then navigate down to expand string 37 followed by highlight 1033. If you are using the Classic Layout rather that the XP Layout, use number 38. The right hand pane will display the stringtable. We're going to modify item 578, currently showing the word "start" just as it displays on the current Start button.

There is no magic here. Just double click on the word "start" so that it's highlighted, making sure the quotation marks are not part of the highlight. They remain in place, surrounding the new text that you'll type. Go ahead and type your new entry. In my case I used Click Me!

You'll notice that after the new text string has been entered the Compile Script button that was grayed out is now active. I won't get into what's involved in compiling a script, but suffice it to say it's going to make this exercise worthwhile. Click Compile Script and then save the altered file using the save us command on the File Menu. Do not use the Save As command and choose a name for the file. Save the newly named file to C:\Windows.

Step 2 - Modify the Registry

Now that the modified explorer.exe has been created it's necessary to modify the registry so the file will be recognized when the user logs on to the system. If you don't know how to access the registry I'm not sure this article is for you, but just in case it's a temporary memory lapse, go to start (soon to be something else) Run and type regedit in the open field.Navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SOFTWARE\ Microsoft\Windows NT\ CurrentVersion\ Winlogon

In the right pane, double click the "shell" entry to open the Edit String dialog box. In the value data: line, enter the name that was used to save the modified explorer.exe file. Click OK.

Close Registry Editor and either log off the system and log back in, reboot the entire system if that's your preference. If all went as planned you should see your new Start button with the revised text.[/b]

Solution: Keyboard issue
This issue has also been known to be caused by a short in the ground wire in the keyboard cable. Make sure this is not the cause of your error by replacing the keyboard with a different keyboard or simply just disconnecting the keyboard from the computer.
Miscellaneous corruption
Before trying any of the below recommendations it's recommend that you attempt to load the last known good configuration. Additional information about doing this can be found on document CH000626.
Corrupt boot.ini file

Reinstalled Windows XP on an old computer (DELL Dimension 2400) and the monitor won't display above basic resolution. Downloaded and reinstalled the monitor driver and still no good. Opened up START


According to the Dell Support web site the Dell Dimension 2400 has a built in Intel 3D extreme graphics adapter, assuming you are using this and not a PCI graphics card.

Go to the Intel Download Centre and run their Intel Driver Update Utility which will automatically scan your system for updated drivers for any installed or integrated Intel devices.

If the Intel Utility identifies an updated driver for your graphics adapter then download and install that which should enable you to configure a higher resolution for your display.

Computer wont bootup windows xp error loading operating system drive 1 not found please help me


1.Restart your computer. Immediately after the screen goes blank for the first time, press the F8 key repeatedly. The Windows Advanced Options menu appears. If the menu does not appear, restart your computer and try again. Use the cursor keys on your keyboard (your mouse will not work) to select Last Known Good Configuration, and then press ENTER. Windows XP attempts to start.

If you recently installed new hardware, shut down your computer and disconnect the hardware. Then, restart Windows XP and troubleshoot your hardware to get it working properly.

Desktop will not start.. will only go through Chkdsk


Try and tap F8 and see if you can boot to safe mode and go to my computer and rt click on C, and pick properties then tools, then
check for errors, and check auto,and scan.

Go to dell.com if you don't know who made the hard drive in your model. Then go to the mfg of the hard drive and download a hard drive diagnostic disk to check your hard drive for bad sectors.

You should go to dell.com and check your warranty and you can also ask dell what you should do.
