The only time I have problems as you you describe it's because the movie isn't streaming fast enough to maintain a steady viewing experience - nothing to do with your drive interface.
To reinstall the IDE controller, go into Device Manager (right click my computer and select properties). You should see IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers. Click on the little + sign and you'll see a list of controllers. Right click each in turn and uninstall. When you've done that, restart the pc and it'll reinstall them automatically.

Try one of these: 1. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060 or... 2. http://aumha.org/downloads/cdgone.zip or... 3. Go to Device Manager, click a "+" sign next to IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers. You'll see two items: - ATA Channel0 (or Primary Channel) - ATA Channel1 (or Secondary Channel) Right click on each of them, and click Uninstal. Confirm. Restart Windows. They'll be automatically reinstalled.
1. Go to Device manager. Click on the + sign beside IDE drives. Right click on the dvd drive and select uninstall. Restart the computer. It should get installed automatically as it is a generic driver.

3. Go to device manager > clock on the + sign beside IDE ATA ATAPI Controllers > right click on Secondary IDE channel and secect uninstall. Do the same with Primary IDE channel. Restart the computer.

Go to Control Panel - click on System - Click on Hardware - Click on Device Manager - click on IDE ATA/ATAPI Controller.
Then right click on Primary IDE Chanel - then click on Properties - Then Advance Settings - For the Device 0 in Transfer Mode select DMA if available. Then Click OK.
You can also select DMA for Device 1 too
I am running a Armada M700 with a Hitachi HTS541060G9AT00 60GB Hard Drive - Ultra ATA-100, 5400 RPM, 8MB. The driver that is loaded in mine is on both primary and secondary is atapi.sys. This driver is also installed on the Intel 82371AB/EB PCI Bus Master IDE Controller, along with intelide.sys. The main difference is I am running Window XP Pro SP2. But I believe that they should use the same driver.
Hope this helps.
