Is it still connected to your computer and mounted in iTunes? If so the ipod will show up under devices in the iTunes sources list. You need to click the eject icon before you can use your ipod while it is connected to the computer.

My ipod 120gb when playing tracks seems to slow down like on a turntable?

This could be a number of things. The cable may not have been in all the way when syncing, your iTunes isn't up to date, or even the HDD in the iPod is going bad. The iPod classics all use a slightly modified laptop HDD, if the drive has gone bad it may need replaced. (see youtube for how to iPod HDD replacement)

I turn the ipod on an it keeps on showing the apple an has a big red x and says

You need to restore your iPod from Disk mode:
  1. Before placing the iPod into disk mode, you should verify that it is charged.
  2. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Set it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
  3. Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons for at least 6 seconds until the Apple logo appears.
  4. When the Apple logo appears, release the Menu and Select buttons and immediately press and hold the Select and the Play/Pause buttons until the Disk Mode screen appears.

  5. Connect the iPod to your computer; the screen on the iPod will change and say "Do not disconnect"
  6. Open iTunes.
  7. After a few moments, your iPod will appear in the Source panel in iTunes.
  8. Select your iPod in the Source panel. You will see information about your iPod appear in the Summary tab of the main iTunes window.
  9. Click Restore.
Hope that helps.

I am trying to dowload english lesson to my Nano Ipod I am unable to do so.

iPod supports only mp4 and h.264 video, you have to convert your video to iPod compatible video at first, then add the converted mp4 video to iTunes library, plug in your iPod to computer, sync your iPod with iTunes, that's all. If you need detailed info, here is a step by step guide will teach you how to put DVD and video to iPod

I'm not sure which one you have, but most iPods respond to being reset. Follow this link to the Apple site and chose the reset directions for your specific iPod.

You need to be running the newest itunes for the newest ipods. It might also be a bad unit or a used repackaged unit. Try returning it for a new one. Hope that helped.
